Tony Sheedy on Driven The Podcast

Tony Sheedy | General Manager of Product at Ryco Filters In this episode of Driven The Podcast, host Will Hamer sits down with Tony Sheedy, General Manager of Product at Ryco Filters and former Australian Army tank gunner, to explore a career built on discipline, persistence and performance. Tony’s journey began in the Australian Army, where he served as a gunner in Leopard 1 tanks with the 1st Armoured Regiment. His time in the military shaped the way he approaches work and leadership today, instilling values of teamwork, safety, self-discipline and professionalism. From always arriving early to maintaining a regimented approach to his responsibilities, those lessons have stayed with him throughout every stage of his career. After leaving the army, Tony’s experience working with tanks sparked a deeper interest in mechanics, leading him to become a qualified mechanic before moving into the automotive aftermarket sector. From there, he built a career across product, sourcing, sales and leadership, including his time at Logikar in the mid-1990s, where challenges around supply forced him to learn how to source and import products directly from overseas. Throughout the conversation, Tony shares his belief that “persistence beats resistance,” reflecting on the years he spent pursuing overseas suppliers and the importance of backing yourself through rejection. He also discusses his decision-making philosophy, including the idea that waiting for 100% of the information can often mean missing the opportunity altogether. Will and Tony also dive into Tony’s role in helping establish Ryco as a dominant force in Australian motorsport, including the brand’s official filtration partnership with V8 Supercars. From developing specialised racing filters to helping extend Supercar engine life, Tony shares how innovation, technical understanding and consistent relationship-building helped Ryco become the official control part supplier for oil, air and fuel filters in the Gen 3 series. This episode is a conversation about military discipline, business resilience, motorsport innovation, leadership and the drive required to keep moving forward when resistance shows up.

Jacob Decru on Driven The Podcast

On the first full episode of Driven The Podcast, Will Hamer is joined by Jacob Decru, sole director of Loan Market Connect, for a conversation about discipline, growth, leadership and the journey behind building a successful career in mortgage broking. With 12 years in the industry, Jacob shares how he first found his way into finance through a graduate program at Accor Hotels and Bendigo Bank, before realising that while he enjoyed numbers, he wanted a career built around people. That path led him into a demanding traineeship inside a Ray White office, where the intensity of the role nearly broke him but ultimately helped shape the structure and resilience he carries today. Jacob speaks about the impact of mentor Matt Sims, the importance of having strict systems, and why his calendar is one of the most important tools in his business. He also shares why phone calls still matter, how the “10 before 10” rule keeps him focused on growth, and why personal connection remains at the centre of his client relationships. Will and Jacob also explore the decision to step away from a long-term partnership and launch Loan Market Connect, which has grown into a team of 16 to 20 people. Jacob opens up about the challenges of entrepreneurship, learning to lead different personalities, embracing failure, and understanding that business growth often comes from trying, testing and backing yourself through uncertainty. Away from the office, Jacob reflects on the routines that keep him grounded, including early morning exercise, running and sauna sessions, as well as the perspective shift that came with becoming a father to his daughter Zoe. This is a conversation about what it takes to stay driven through pressure, change, leadership, fatherhood and the constant pursuit of growth.
