    Katherine has initial reservations when the British Museum commissions her and her husband, William "Scoresby" Routledge, to visit and survey distant Easter Island.     Building Mana

    Katherine and Scoresby must build their own ship to reach Easter Island. Scoresby grapples with anxiety about safety in the wake of the Titanic's demise, and the couple struggle to hire qualified crew.     The Other Half of the Sky

    The Avenida Palace

    After months at sea, the crew arrives on Easter Island, where they receive a chilly reception from the British businessman who runs the island as a sheep ranch.     A Proliferation of Spirits

    Katherine and Scoresby visit the ancient quarry at Rano Raraku, an experience she finds deeply moving. Katherine meets with resistance when she interviews several island elders about the past.
