EP 53: The end of our home-schooling adventure

Hey friends, back at ya after a long hiatus!

I'm going a little freestyle in today's episode: I fill you in on what's been up in my world in the past few months, where my head has been, as well as talk about a big change for our family, the boys having started school this month after five years of home-schooling.

The truth of it is, what I want for my children has not actually changed that much.

I still would love for them to be free in body and mind, understand how to take good care of themselves, have the courage to ask questions without fear of being different and develop a love of nature and strong sense of community.

But as they’ve gotten older and our family structure has also changed, as well as some other factors that I go into in the episode, it was becoming clear that they could benefit from being part of a welcoming community on a regular basis.

Tune in to hear about what went into our decision, my thoughts on the idea of "sacrifice" and the question of how to strike that delicate balance between respecting your kids' autonomy versus knowing when it's time to push them a little out of their comfort zone.  💕

EP 52: Se délester du poids du passé

EP 52: Se délester du poids du passé

(( For once, in French! ))

EP 51: My journey with feminism (Part 2)

EP 51: My journey with feminism (Part 2)

I’m finally back at you with part 2 of my thoughts on modern feminism — and I explain my (very good) reasons for why it took so long!

If you haven’t yet heard Part 1, I would definitely recommend starting there first.

In today's episode I get into the more specific ways in which I've observed modern feminist ideas influence my own life choices as well as those of other women around me.

My approach as always is pragmatic: does this way of thinking about the world make us happier or does it sometimes create difficulty in our daily lives?

As I mentioned last time, I have a hard time agreeing with the idea that the sheer existence of differences between the sexes is problematic, or that masculinity is by definition wrong.

In an oppressive system, nobody comes out unscathed.

Many men have lots of healing to do, just like many women. And I would even say, the fact that many of them are jerks is not because they are men… but because they AREN’T. In a culture that does not promote emotional responsibility, many of them stay in boy energy.

I think it's high time that we removed the stigma around masculinity, accepting that its healthy incarnation is just as beautiful, divine and indispensable as the feminine principle. And for men to step up to the plate, they need to offer their unique gifts, and not become "just like our girlfriends".

I believe this is something we all feel intuitively but the world in which we live makes it very hard to access that intuition.

I would love to see us do away with the infighting and work TOGETHER towards a more beautiful world. And that just might start by developing curiosity and empathy for the men in our lives, as well as doing our own personal work and setting rock-solid personal boundaries in place.

EP 50: My journey with feminism (Part 1)

EP 50: My journey with feminism (Part 1)

Today I’m coming at you with a topic which I’ve had a relationship with for a long time: modern feminism.

As a mom to boys and a woman who loves men, this is a topic that is particularly dear to my heart.

And of course everything I have to say is strictly about my own personal experience and observations. I do NOT claim monopoly to "the truth"!

Also, since I have a lot to say, this one will be a 2-parter.

As you know, I have a bit of a beef with our modern civilization and its oppressive ways — so of course our patriarchal ways are no exception. We live in a world where the subjugation of women and the denigration of feminine values have been pretty much institutionalized.

So it has of course been extremely important to reveal and reverse the ways in which this has been happening on a systemic level, in the form of the feminist movements of the past and present, going all the way back to the suffragist movements of the 19th century.

Even the fact that I’m here talking to you in this way today means that so many women (and men) have fought for my ability and freedom to do so.

That being said, what I've been noticing in our present day is that it's also been a bit of a mixed bag, and there have also been lots of unintended consequences to the ideas imparted by modern feminism — such as the idea that the very existence of differences between the sexes is problematic or that putting more women into traditionally male-dominated spaces constitutes progress in and of itself, without asking what we might also be losing in the final analysis.

And as you know by now, I always find it important to be able to look at everything and ask the hard questions without fear.

In part I today, I dig into my own personal history with feminist ideas and where I have come to with those today. Next episode will get more into the concrete ways in which that has influenced my own life choices, as well as many of my clients and friends.

EP 49: How to really stop "self-sabotage"

EP 49: How to really stop "self-sabotage"

Full disclaimer: I actually don't love the label "self-sabotage" because, while it likes to pass for self-knowledge, it is often anything but!

It's a term that gets thrown around to label behaviors that leave us perplexed because they don't seem aligned with our goals.

But upon closer look, you may notice that your unconscious has very good reasons for the way it has you behave, even if those reasons don't make logical sense at first blush.

Saying you "sabotage" yourself actually blocks your curiosity and prevents you from understanding your unconscious drivers (which is really what's running the show for us humans!).

I also reshare one of my earliest episodes which is all about self-compassion because it is the no1 ingredient for becoming your own best friend and overcoming "self-sabotaging" behaviors in a loving and lasting way. 💫

Episode 8: The surprising thing that blocks change

Have you ever made a promise to yourself that you didn’t keep?
Maybe it was to start waking up 30 min earlier and start journalling every morning.
To hand in your notice within the month to finally launch your dream project.
Or commit to eating well no matter what it took...
But no matter how many times you promised yourself to FINALLY change for good… it just didn’t stick.
AND you made it mean all kinds of horrible things about yourself: that you have no willpower, you have no control, that you're somehow "bad" or "broken"...

But guess what, being harsh on yourself when you let yourself down is the kiss of death for lasting change.
Moving toward the person you want to become can only come from FULLY accepting and loving yourself where you currently are, even though it feels like exactly the opposite is true.
Tune in to this episode to learn how to overcome your brain's sneaky ways and learn about the key to lasting habit change!

EP 48: How to make powerful decisions
