Google killed the best product they ever had | Sidebean

We help startups present to investors! ► https://youtube.slidebean.com/Inbox #startups #Slidebean #Google This one kind of hurts. I liked Google Inbox. Many people did, and most reviews were positive to prove it. There was also a general outcry when it shut down. It almost got me to enjoy email altogether. And then, of course, Google turned it off. Back to square one, to traditional and burdensome email. If you think the Gmail app is friendly enough these days, just know that it is largely thanks to Inbox. Features like snoozing messages, auto-generated bundles, or the somewhat creepy but helpful suggestions of smart replies; were first implemented on the Inbox app. And, somehow, they felt more organic and fresher than now on Gmail. So, let's remember yet another addition to Google's prolific list of deceased projects and companies. One that was good and ultimately got sacrificed to make Gmail what it is today. How much do you plan to charge for your product? How much do you expect you'll pay to acquire a customer? How much time do you need to finish development, and how much will those salaries cost? The sooner you know how much extra cash you'll have, the sooner you can deploy it, and the sooner you can yield results, i.e., multiply it. In the startup world, weeks can make a world of difference. So the model that we use at Slidebean, the model that made us profitable, we are making it available to the world as a free download. A Fleeting Story: How Twitter Fleets Failed | Sidebean

A Fleeting Story: How Twitter Fleets Failed We don't just make videos. Try our presentation app for free! ► https://slidebean.com/youtube Follow Caya on Twitter ► https://twitter.com/cayahere #Startups #Slidebean #Twitter Stories are usually posts that will just vanish usually after 24 hours. Before Snapchat introduced this idea of disappearing messages and content, back in 2013, every post on social media remained in the archives of the internet. Fast forward to 2021, and all of the leading social media platforms have their own stories feature but some of them may have been a little too late to the party. Twitter only came up with its version of stories in late 2020, when they introduced Fleets. It was pretty much the same stories feature people had been using for years. A roll of posts, on top of your regular feed, just like Instagram stories. The content you see there from the accounts you follow disappears after twenty-four hours. Fast forward to today, only eight months later, Twitter is calling it a day and shutting down Fleets. Let's talk about Twitter today and how it failed to adopt one of the most trending forms of social media for younger generations in today's Company Forensics. 0:00 Twitter Fleets - Intro 1:47 Twitter Fleets - A Brief History of Stories 4:30 Twitter Fleets - "We're Sorry, or You're Welcome" Read the video transcription + sources: https://slidebean.com/story/why-twitter-fleets-failed?utm_source=youtube.com&utm_medium=content&utm_campaign=ba-content -- Follow Caya: https://twitter.com/cayahere https://instagram.com/caya_here Turn on notifications for the podcast & rate it a 5-star for new episodes. The black belt. The Academy Award. The Olympic medal. Listing your company in the New York stock exchange. Going public. And it’s also one of the most complicated, expensive, and dangerous processes a company can go through. Last year, WeWork almost went out of business because they tried to go public. More recently, as with everything in business- somebody found a legal way to cheat their way to going public, a method called a SPAC, and it may be one of the drivers to the new stock market bubble of the decade. But to understand SPACs we need to understand everything from publicly listed companies, so let’s look into the process a company like us would take to get here in today’s company Forensics. About Slidebean Slidebean is a platform for founders to scale their startups. The creator economy (and the thin line we CAN'T cross) | Sidebean

The creator economy (and the thin line we CAN'T cross) We're not a Youtube channel. Our platform helps founders scale their startups ► https://slidebean.com/youtube #startups #slidebean #influencers Slowly but surely I’ve started to accept my place as an ‘influencer’. My Twitter bio says ‘accidental Youtuber’, and I very much believe that is the case. Because technically, as an influencer, I cheated my way to your screen. This Youtube channel was/is a marketing campaign for Slidebean: up until recently, it was an expense for the company. It was funded by our marketing budget. And don’t get me wrong, it has done wonders to get Slidebean in front of people, we have recovered that money tenfold; but as a self-contained business, this channel only started making money this year. We got to buy fancy gear, and build ourselves a studio, and hire a team, and fly places- which obviously made us grow faster, it would have taken me so much longer to build 300K followers by myself. So I’m a fan of the Sams, and the Johnnys, and the Kris’ that just built it themselves, on their talent, and the skin of their teeth. The Internet was just a megaphone to their skills and the content they produce. And for the longest time, the only way to monetize that talent was putting ads on it, or selling and endorsing things. But today we have Patreon and Buy Me a Coffee- platforms where people pay their own money to support influencers' craft. There’s also a shady world of internet gurus, using their influence to sell thin air. So this is an incredible new phenomenon that I’ve wanted to talk about for so long. -- 0:00 Influencer Economy - Intro 1:48 Influencer Economy - The First Influencer Campaign 3:49 Influencer Economy - The origins of internet influencers 7:21 Influencer Economy - How Instagram changed the game 9:02 Influencer Economy - The expert influencer 11:29 Influencer Economy - The lifestyle influencer 13:20 Influencer Economy - Advertising 14:46 Influencer Economy - Paying for content Follow Caya: https://twitter.com/cayahere https://instagram.com/caya_here Turn on notifications for the podcast & rate it a 5-star for new episodes. Angel investors frequently ask “what’s your exit strategy?” And at the seed and Series A stages, often founders talk about their exit strategy unprompted. We think that’s a mistake. Early on you should be focused on building a big and impactful company and dominating your market. Do that and the right monetization event will come along. But from the beginning, it’s important to understand how exits work and what possible outcomes may look like. Most first-time founders don’t realize how, when, and why common exit scenarios unfold. So let’s cover the primary ways an exit can occur, why and when they occur, and how to maximize exit opportunity value for you, your investors, and your team. #startups #Slidebean #DreamIt 0:00 - Intro 1:17 Acquiring a Company 2:40 Where buyers come from 3:52 What investors want 4:54 Another type of exit: Soft landing 5:54 Getting acquired: what to do next? 6:45 A Public Company Subscribe to DreamIt Ventures YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/user/DreamItVentures Read the video transcription + sources: https://slidebean.com/blog/startups-exits?utm_source=youtube.com&utm_medium=content&utm_campaign=ba-content Follow Caya: https://twitter.com/cayahere and https://instagram.com/caya_here Turn on notifications for the podcast & rate it a 5-star for new episodes.
