Joseph ‘Rev’ Simmons is Run D.M.C.’s iconic rapper. He just wrote a book with this wife Justine Simmons called “Old School Love: And Why it Works.” I like this interview because they’re relationship is on full display here. You see they argue and work through it. You hear them banter and talk over each other the way real couples do. And then you see how caring they are for each other. So you’ll get the advice and the examples all at once. And in real-time. AND of course I asked Rev all about his rap career, fame, rising to the top, letting go of drugs, excess, gluttony and finding God.

534 - The Difference Between a Narcissist & a Sociopath: I Ask Psychotherapist & Bestselling Author Lori Gottlieb to Breakdown The Inside Baseball of Therapy

Lori Gottlieb is a psychotherapist and the author "Maybe You Should Talk to Someone." In this episode, she tells me the inside baseball of therapy: what's the difference between a narcistist and a sociopath? How do you spot them (so you don't end up in relationships with them) / make sure YOU'RE not one. I also ask her how to deal with passive aggression, the benefits of therapy, and what ways she's personally seen her own client's lives improve.

532 - How to Swap Planning for Permission. And Go After What You Actually Want in Life: I Tell Sean Kim on His Podcast "Growth Minds"

There’s a lot I want to accomplish in life. And I bet there’s a lot you want to accomplish, too. So what’s stopping us? Usually, in my own life, I can boil it down to one thing. It’s not focus. It’s not having some super-specific morning routine. Or 8 hours of sleep (although that’s important)… I accomplish things when I give myself permission to accomplish things. So what does that mean? It means I start doing and stop thinking about what it would look like to do something. So in this episode, you’ll hear Sean Kim, host of “Growth Minds” podcast interview me about how to swap planning for permission and go for what you actually want in life.

531 - The Secret to Being an Effective Leader: Retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink Shares How He Translates Military Leadership to Business Leadership

Jocko Willink is a NAVY Seal turned leadership coach. He says leadership is “the most complex of all human endeavors.” Because leadership is not just one skill. It’s a combination of hundreds: management, decision making, team building, teaching, disciplining, training... the list goes on. So he wrote a field manual. In this episode, we dig deep into what it looks like to translate military leadership skills into successful business skills.

530 - How to Stay Ahead of The Future: Tech Futurist, Jamie Metzl Reveals What You Can Do to Stay Sharp in A Rapidly Changing World

530 - How to Stay Ahead of The Future: Tech Futurist, Jamie Metzl Reveals What You Can Do to Stay Sharp in A Rapidly Changing World

Everything is changing all the time. So how do we keep up? How do we learn to stay ahead of the future? That's what Jamie Metzl is here to tell us. Jamie is a tech futurist, self-taught genomics expert, economist and the bestselling author of "Hacking Darwin," which is all about genetic engineering and "the frontiers of biology." But what's most important here is that Jamie didn't go to school for genomics. He's self-taught. And he skipped the line by be self-taught AND a skilled sci-fi writer. Combining both made his book his #1. And opened the doors to new opportunities. That's what learning is about. So I ask Jamie to teach me how he learns. So we can be better learners, too.

I have been listening to the show for almost 2 years. Great insight and James know how to go get the gold from each interview. Also listened Choose Yourself at least 6-7 times by now and applying it to my life - thank you for putting this out in the world. I have offered the book to 2 friends already! Max from Paris

I can’t stop listening to this podcast

I am going to complain : there are too many episodes to listen to, different types of guests, talking about everything ... and it is ALL INTERESTING !
I felt like stoping listening to this podcast to free some time ... but it is too interesting and when I feel like stopping, I receive an email update about the podcast and go back to listen to it.
In the end, it is easier to subscribe to the podcast and listen to all the episodes instead of trying to escape James Altucher. I learn and discover so many things. Thank you and keep going !
