    #286: Season preview

Jack's joined by Ian and Alfie for the season preview as they run through a summer of change at Rodney Parade: Hayden Mullins arriving as manager just before kick-off, Kyle Cameron taking the captain's armband and a recruitment strategy that's swung from young and inexperienced to getting some genuine experience back into the side The lads debate whether the squad's actually better on paper, worry (as ever) about a midfield that's been missing a proper anchor for years, and brace for Saturday's opener against a newly-promoted, battle-hardened Rochdale. Predictions are in and spoiler: nobody's picking a top-half finish! Plus hear about this year's "ones to watch" and a special away-day tribute planned for Salford away in honour of a much-missed member of the podcast crew. Rambling, honest, and cautiously hopeful, as always. Do get yourself subscribed to our YouTube channel for regular match preview videos and on-the-whistle match reports through the season. Plus you can check out our website for all the pod info you need, or drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us. You can also support the pod from as little as £2 on our ko-fi page. Our theme tune is the original 1973 recording of Come On The County - and we are brought to you in association with our friends at the Riverside Sports Bar and our new co-headline sponsor; Skerryvore Designs, your new favourite architect consultancy and advisors on all projects big and small; family run and first meeting completely free of charge to talk about getting around those pesky planning regs! Until next time, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    #282: Somerton Park

TWO IMPORTANT NOTES! As Jack says at the start, this episode is best consumed visually so you can see the slides we're discussing. You can watch the video version here.If you prefer to listen, then you can still view the slides either on LinkedIn or on Facebook. This is another summer special episode, where we fulfil a long-held ambition to do a ground guide to Somerton Park - arriving from Cromwell Road, entering through the turnstiles behind the Main Stand, and then doing a lap of the ground, taking in the sights and smells. To help us along the way, we have keen County historian Chris Shingler, curator of the legendary Newport County AFC Nostalgia group on Facebook, and a slew of great photos and archive materials to guide us. Chris is joined by semi-regular host and constant curmudgeon Jack, who asks the naive questions as someone too young to have experienced the ground for himself, whilst regular panellist Ian Street chips in with some memories of his own. Thanks to everyone who helped bring this very special episode together. As always, do check out our website for all the pod info you need, and drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us. Our theme tune is the original 1973 recording of Come On The County - and we are brought to you in association with our friends at the Riverside Sports Bar. #281: Do we learn anything from friendlies?

NB, intro recorded prior to Christian Fuchs' departure - see Ep280 for our snap reaction to that news... Another short bonus episode for you, ahead of County's first pre-season game on Saturday at Bristol Manor Farm - and one that features a time capsule from a year ago, when we asked four listeners to send us a voicenote predicting how County would fare in 2024/25 based on the friendlies they'd just watched. Listen and learn what they got right and wrong. We featuring the voices of Hwyligan, Amber Arnie, Stu and also our sadly-departed friend, Ollie Allen, whose voicenote we used with the kind permission of his mum. We hope that - like us - you enjoy hearing his voice again, odd though it may feel. At the heart of the episode is hopefully a welcome reminder to not worry too much about the result and performances over the next few weeks. Enjoy the sunshine and company of friends for games that are interesting but ultimately don't really matter a great deal. Let's save the existential angst for April and May... We hope to be back in a week or so with a video episode where we delve into archive photos to give you a ground guide to Somerton Park. But in the meantime, check out our website for all the pod info you need, and drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us. As usual, our theme tune is the original 1973 recording of Come On The County - and we are brought to you in association with our friends at the Riverside Sports Bar. Until next time, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
