Laughs, Cards. A special guest. A promo code & the beginning of Del Piero’s podcasting career.

EPISODE 62 IS HERE… and we’ve somehow managed to get even less professional. This week, we’re joined by a very special guest: Piero from Swopsies! Or, as he’ll forever be known on this podcast… Del Piero. Sorry Piero, you walked straight into that one. Piero joins the boys to share his sports card collecting journey, the story behind why he created Swopsies, and drops some BIG news about an exciting collaboration. You’ll have to listen to find out what it is — because we’re not giving everything away for free around here. Speaking of free-ish things, Piero has also hooked our listeners up with an exclusive promo code. Use CCPOD and get involved. Honestly, we’d use it ourselves if we were allowed. Elsewhere, BC semi-calls out PCG. Let’s be absolutely clear: BC LOVES PCG. He just also loves receiving emails back. Come on, lads. It takes two seconds. We also debut a brand-new feature, “Give Us Your Stats”, dive headfirst into plenty of Topps Flagship chat, and somehow find ourselves surrounded by rogue Forrest Gump and Frank Sinatra quotes. Standard behaviour, really. Lots of laughs. Lots of cards. A special guest. A promo code. And potentially the beginning of Del Piero’s podcasting career. What a show. As always, follow the boys for the sports cards and join us for another episode of Coom & Currie Sports Cards — where the hobby chat is strong and the professionalism is very much optional. Auckland Card Show, Seahawks & Packers predictions & Flagship football is here! Let that permeate.

Just the two of us. No guests. No excuses. Just two men bravely pretending this is an “admin episode” while discussing some of the most important issues facing the hobby… and absolutely none of them will be solved. We’re predicting the Seahawks and Packers wins and losses for the season, because apparently we’re now qualified NFL analysts. Then we tackle the big question: who are the biggest football clubs in the UK? Expect absolutely no bias whatsoever. Topps Flagship Football drops this week, and BC already has his eyes on the prize: a triple auto featuring JSN, Darnold and Kupp. Sensible? Absolutely not. Will he try to get one? Obviously. There’s mail day, the return of Codswollop, and another deep dive into the never-ending question of how we actually make the sports card hobby sustainable. And the big one… THE AUCKLAND CARD SHOW. We talk about the show, the hobby, the community and where things go from here. As ever, 'follow the boys for the Sports Cards.' Coom & Currie Sports Cards. A former All Black & current sports card enabler joins the show & MC disappears, will he come back?

Episode 60 is here, and we’ve landed a guest with a pretty decent rugby CV. Former Hurricane and former All Black Scott Waldrom joins us for a brilliant chat about his rugby journey, life after the game, his jersey shop, and how he ended up falling down the sports card rabbit hole. We also try to establish the only question that really matters… has Scott officially chosen Coom & Currie Sports Cards over Top Play? We’ll let you be the judge. Elsewhere in the episode: * Codswollop makes its usual appearance. * Mail Day delivers an unexpected Paul Ifill Wellington Phoenix card for BC. * MC’s technology does its best to cancel the podcast, but this train isn’t stopping anytime soon. * BC is gearing up for the Auckland Card Show, with plenty of content on the way. * MC shares his thoughts on the new Topps EPL Flagship release. A great guest, plenty of laughs, the usual chaos, and somehow we still stay on topic… occasionally. Get it in your ears. We LOVE a day at the Seaside. Andy is back, for his fourth Cap. Topps EPL is back.

Episode 59 is here… and somehow, it’s one of our most professional episodes yet. Andy from Seaside Sports Cards earns his fourth cap for Coom & Currie, proving once again that he either loves the hobby… or just enjoys watching us struggle with technology. This week we’re talking all things Topps Premier League Flagship. MC and Andy are absolutely obsessed, while Coom eventually joins after somehow getting defeated by… a world clock. Speaking of professionalism, we hit a few technical issues during the recording. Thankfully Andy stepped in, calmly navigated the chaos, and basically became the producer. He handled it so well that we couldn’t bring ourselves to edit any of it out. It’s a masterclass. We also chat about Andy’s experience as a vendor at the Brighton Card Show, dive into everyone’s latest mail days, and, of course, deliver another instalment of Codswollop. Stick around after the credits too, because the Card Crazy giveaway winner is decided in the only sensible way possible… a duck race. Late arrivals. Technical disasters. Football cards. Mail days. Ducks. It’s got it all. Baza is at the controls! An Un-expected Hat-trick Ball & One hell of a 'Deep & Meaningful'

Episode 58 is here… and we’ve finally let Baza Collects Cards get his hands on the controls. At this point we’re pretty sure he’s got his own parking spot. This week we dive headfirst into the New Zealand sports card scene, chatting about where the hobby is heading and how we can all help make it even better. It’s one of our more thoughtful conversations… don’t worry, we still manage to go off on plenty of tangents. We also count down our Top 5 most fun products to rip, and it turns out we’re both absolute suckers for huge colour, ridiculous eye appeal, and cards that make you instantly forget what your bank balance looked like five minutes earlier. Of course, we had to talk about Topps Resurgence. Safe to say… we’re completely sold. If you like shiny cards with serious wow factor, this one is worth a look. There are plenty of deep and meaningful moments throughout the episode, while Baza officially picks up his hat-trick ball after yet another appearance on the podcast. At this rate we’re going to have to start paying him… in base cards. A massive thank you to our sponsor, Kiwi Card Collective, for continuing to support everything we do. We also give plenty of credit to Blunt Collections for the way they conduct themselves in the hobby, and chat about some exciting new ventures happening in New Zealand, including Brock Nash’s Card Syndicate and Nijesh’s Card Reserve NZ. Whether you’re ripping boxes, chasing grails, or just here for the questionable takes and terrible financial decisions, Episode 58 has something for everyone. Enjoy the show! Baza is BACK! BC gets emotional & a Funko gets Sacrificed!

EP57 – BAZA IS BACK! Friend of the pod and now officially a two-time guest, Baza Collects returns to Coom & Currie Sports Cards. Baza takes us across the pond as he tells us all about his trip to the West Coast Card Show in the States — the cards, the experience and, most importantly, getting to share it all with his boys. It all gets a bit wholesome for a sports card podcast, as Baza manages to make BC genuinely emotional talking about just how special that time together was. We weren’t prepared for feelings. We apologise. Normal service is quickly resumed when BC makes the frankly outrageous decision to OPEN A FUNKO POP AND REMOVE IT FROM ITS BOX. MC can only sit and watch in absolute horror as thousands of collectors simultaneously sense a disturbance in the force. We also get into what actually makes sports cards so special to us. Is it the cards? The chase? The nostalgia? The community? Or just an elaborate excuse for grown men to spend money on shiny cardboard? MC shares his card show strategy, and naturally step one is to get yourself properly hydrated. A lager is preferable. In BC’s case, a nice Pilsner. Holsten Pils if you want that added hit of nostalgia before making financially questionable decisions at a dealer’s table. Plus all the usual favourites: Mail Day Codswollop And introducing our NEW feature — TOP OF THE POPS. Each week we’ll reveal the five most-listened-to Coom & Currie episodes and see who’s climbing the charts. Last week’s episode went STRAIGHT IN AT NUMBER TWO. But the big question… Where will Baza’s second appearance rank? Lots of laughs. Great card chat. A little bit of emotion. Questionable card show drinking strategies. And the brutal unboxing of an innocent Funko Pop. It’s EP57. Get it in your ears. Takeaways Survival instincts are crucial when navigating the overwhelming environment of card shows. The accessibility to card stock and retail packs differs significantly between countries, impacting the hobby experience. Family bonding and shared experiences are a key part of the card collecting journey.Value bin boxes and bargain finds offer exciting opportunities for collectors to discover hidden gems.Graded cards and accessibility in the US market provide unique opportunities for collectors to expand their collections. The man, the myth, the legend. Card Crazy Debuts.

Episode 56 of the Coom & Currie Sports Cards Podcast is here! The man. The myth. The legend. Matt Brown from Card Crazy makes his long-awaited debut on the pod. We get the inside scoop on what it’s really like running New Zealand’s biggest card shop, find out what Matt actually collects when he’s not surrounded by cardboard all day, and most importantly, put him on the spot for his very own Card Shop Codswollop. Matt and the team at Card Crazy have also very generously sorted us out with some top-quality giveaway products for our New Zealand-based listeners. Listen in to find out what’s up for grabs and how you can get involved. Elsewhere, MC has been under the weather, while BC is fit, firing and absolutely raring to talk nonsense. With the NFL season fast approaching, we get stuck into the Packers and Seahawks, who are both obviously looking incredibly strong depending entirely on which host you ask. We also look ahead to the Seahawks making their debut on School of Hard Knocks — something BC will no doubt remain completely calm and unbiased about. There’s also World Cup Final chat, plus all the usual nonsense, including: Mail Day Codswollop A huge episode with a brilliant guest, giveaways, NFL chat, cards and the usual amount of questionable opinions. Sweepstake Pete. England are out & MC has been Scammed! BC picks up an on-card auto

Coom & Currie Sports Cards Podcast – Episode 55! This week, MC has been well and truly done. He’s picked up a dodgy World Cup hardback sticker album off eBay… and if the word “Collection” being spelt wrong wasn’t enough of a red flag, we’re not sure what is. An elite bit of online shopping from MC. We also reveal the story behind the legend that is “Sweepstake Pete” and how recycling an ancient set of Grand National horses earned him one of the great nicknames. Meanwhile, BC has been getting amongst a Topps Chrome break, picking up a beautiful on-card auto and a very tidy numbered Sam Darnold colour match for the collection. All the usual nonsense returns with Mail Day and Codswollop, plus MC launches a brand-new segment: “News of the World.” What could possibly go wrong? We also want to hear from YOU. What do you love about the show? What should we do more of? What should we bin immediately? Get in touch and give us your feedback.
