Can You Stand the Heat: What Tapas Taught Me About Self-Discipline and One Minute More

Have you ever been in a situation where you thought you could not hold on one more second? And what happened when you stayed? That question is the whole episode. Tapas is the third Niyama in the ancient yogic tradition and it literally means heat. The kind of heat that transforms you. Whether you practice yoga or have never stepped foot on a mat, this principle is going to apply to your life. In this episode we get into what Tapas actually looks like in everyday life, from a deep stretch on a yoga mat to a twenty mile bike ride to the seasons of your life where you had no choice but to stay in the fire. We also get into what Deborah Adele writes in The Yamas and Niyamas about the controlled burn, the promise of a crisis, and what grows on the other side of the hardest seasons of your life. Plus two invitations from Deborah's closing explorations, including the one minute more challenge that I think is going to stay with you long after this episode ends. If you have been in the fire lately, or if you keep walking away from hard things before you get to the other side, this one is for you. Botox, Fillers & Facelifts: What Works & When to Do Nothing with Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Michael Brandt

Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Brandt joins Tracy for an honest, judgment-free conversation about Botox, fillers, facelifts, aesthetic medicine, and the decision to do nothing at all. Dr. Brandt, founder of FORM Face + Body in Toronto, explains the differences between traditional, mini, and deep plane facelifts; what creates natural-looking results; and why choosing the right provider matters as much as choosing the right procedure. He also discusses Botox and other neuromodulators, how long facial fillers may remain in the body, nonsurgical rhinoplasty, lip filler, eyelid surgery, neck lifts, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, retinol, red light and infrared masks, and everyday ways to protect aging skin. Tracy and Dr. Brandt also explore: How to know whether an aesthetic procedure is right for youWhy a reputable provider may tell you to wait or do nothingThe risks and benefits of surgical and nonsurgical treatmentsWhat women with melanated skin should know about lasers, chemical peels, scarring, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentationWhy fillers can sometimes create a pillowy or overfilled appearanceWhether Botox and cosmetic procedures can become addictiveWhat to consider when looking for natural-looking resultsWhy second opinions are important before a major procedureHow aesthetic medicine can support confidence without becoming a pursuit of perfectionWhether you are considering cosmetic work, firmly opposed to it, or simply curious about the options, this conversation is designed to help you make informed decisions from a place of knowledge rather than pressure or fear. When It Rains, Let It Rain: How to Find Contentment When Life Doesn’t Go as Planned

What if contentment isn’t something you find when life finally goes according to plan, but something you can practice right in the middle of the mess? After a powerful derecho tore through my neighborhood, we were left with flooded streets, fallen trees, no power, no WiFi and neighbors suddenly pouring out of their homes to help one another. Somewhere between clearing storm drains, laughing with my neighbor Sue in her red rain boots and watching complete strangers show up for each other, I realized I was experiencing something I’d recently been studying in yoga philosophy: Santosha, the practice of contentment. In this solo episode of A Beautiful Fix, we explore what Santosha can teach us about finding contentment when life doesn’t go as planned, practicing gratitude for what’s already here and letting go of our constant need for life to be different before we allow ourselves to enjoy it. Because maybe contentment isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. Maybe it’s learning to stop looking over the fence, stop waiting for the next thing and fall in love with the life that’s actually happening right now. And sometimes, when it rains, you just let it rain. Want More? Grab your Human Design chart here: https://www.abeautifulfix.com/pages/hdchart Want to unpack it together? She Left Everything Behind: 7 Years of Solo Travel | Kristy Halvorsen, Author of Perfect Unfolding

What happens when you leave behind the life you’re supposed to want and start following what actually makes you feel alive? After 14 years as a firefighter and paramedic, Kristy Halvorsen walked away from her career, sold her home and most of her belongings, and set out alone in an Airstream. What began as a leap into the unknown became seven years of solo travel across North America and ultimately inspired her book, Perfect Unfolding. In this episode of A Beautiful Fix, Kristy shares what she learned about trusting yourself when you don’t know what comes next, overcoming fear, embracing uncertainty, and following what she calls the “tickles of your soul.” We talk about the extraordinary kindness of strangers, finding freedom outside of society’s expectations, falling in love with life, and why you don’t need to sell everything or travel across a continent to begin changing your own life. We also explore Kristy’s Human Design as a 1/3 Emotional Generator with an open Identity Center and how beautifully it reflects a life built through experimentation, experience, and the willingness to let identity evolve. If you’ve ever wondered whether there could be more for you, or felt the pull toward a life that doesn’t quite make logical sense, this conversation is an invitation to trust the next step. You don’t have to know where it will lead. Leave Yourself Alone

Have you ever spent more energy avoiding something than it would have actually taken to just do it? This week I finally recorded my first yoga teacher certification video. Six months late. Fifteen minutes of footage nobody will ever see. One husband who said two words. And one hour that actually counted. What happened in the middle of all of that led me straight to Saucha, the first Niyama in the ancient yogic tradition, and it had something very specific to say about what I had been doing to myself. Saucha means purity. But not the kind you are thinking. This episode gets into what purity actually looks like in everyday life, the energy that moves through us in moments of unexpected beauty, the beginner's mind, and three words from Anthony de Mello that I am still sitting with. Leave yourself alone. If you have been managing yourself, judging yourself, or making something simple into a whole production, this one is for you. I Had It All and Then I Didn't: Dr. Susan Miele on Identity, Menopause, and Beginning Again

What happens when everything you built your identity around disappears in less than a year? Dr. Susan Miele was a Chief People Officer at a Fortune 500 company. She reached the C suite before 40, which had been her goal since she was a teenager. Her career was not just what she did. It was who she was. Then at 42, undiagnosed perimenopause began dismantling everything. Her performance. Her marriage. Her sense of self. She resigned without a plan, downsized her life, and then watched her new home burn to the ground twelve days after moving in. In less than twelve months she lost her career, her health, and her home. What followed was not a reinvention. It was a pause. And that pause became the foundation for her book, Paused: Redefining Identity When Our Story No Longer Holds Us. In this conversation we get into the story she wrote for herself at fourteen and lived into for decades, what perimenopause really looks like when it does not look like what anyone told you to expect, why she spent seven years trying to get back to who she was before she realized there was no going back, the three questions that anchor identity, who am I, how did I get here, and where am I going, what it means to try on possible selves like clothes in a dressing room, and why the struggle is the path. This episode also touches on menopause in the workplace and why less than twenty percent of US companies currently offer any menopausal benefits, even as fifty percent of their workforce will experience it. If you have ever defined yourself by what you do and wondered who you would be without it, this conversation is for you. What We Try to Possess Possesses Us.

There is a grand piano in your life that you keep trying to carry to the dining room. Maybe it is a career you walked away from but still dream about. Maybe it is clothes hanging in your closet from a chapter that is already closed. Maybe it is a story about who you are that you wrote a long time ago and have not been able to put down. In this episode we get into Aparigraha, the fifth and final Yama from the ancient yogic tradition, and what non attachment actually looks like in real life. Drawing on Deborah Adele's book The Yamas and Niyamas, we explore the difference between loving something fully and clinging to it, why letting go feels like being suspended in midair on a trapeze, and what a teenager with no plans for packing taught one of the wisest women I know about freedom. Plus a brief tease of next week's guest, who held on to a story she created at age fourteen for decades, and what it cost her. If you have ever thought you let go of something only to find it still showing up in your dreams, this one is for you.
