ANOINTING THE SICK #248 ~ Anointed In Amplified Alchemy

'Anointed In Amplified Alchemy' opens in slightly different fashion this week with Hijss whose blend of grungy space rock entered the doom charts at no 36 in March 2024 along with other Doom Chart entries AcidSitter, Mountain Dust and more recently Kröwnn. There is a label spotlight this week shining on 3 bands from the Brutal Records stable, No Worth Of Man, Bent By Sorrow and Eternal Returns plus tracks from a couple of my Albums Of The Week by Vulgarian and Overtoun. The showpiece track of this weeks show is a 20 minute progressive psych mind bender from Onioroshi. ANOINTING THE SICK ~ Best Of 2025

It's such a difficult task somehow choosing 20 exceptional albums from a vintage year of incredible extreme underground metal releases. I had a shortlist but the albums I chose could have filled a dozen 'Best of 2025' lists, so I had to be extra disciplined. Stoner in it's various forms dominated my most played but doom and sludge featured regularly also. The scene was saturated with some excellent new death metal albums and my podcast show has played a lot of tech death, however I've come up with three that, although not reinventing the wheel, once I'd finished playing their albums, I felt pretty satisfied with what the bands had acheived. I'm happy with the top 20 I've ended up with and I hope there is something in here that helps you discover a gem you may have missed. ANOINTING THE SICK #245 ~ Gazing Up At The Floor Of Hell

There's a place even deeper than The Ninth Circle of Hell and it's called the Anointing The Sick Metal Blog and what could be more apt than opening the show with a band called Horrible with a track off their album 'Filth then following up with some nihilistic party slop from deathsters Trunk, both albums can be purchased for NYP on Bandcamp. There's a heavy stoner/doom/psych presence this week including albums from Dusted Angel and Stone Machine Electric that entered September's Doom Charts. The random pick this week and also the showpiece track is the immense sludge of Sea Bastard.
