    From World Level Fencer to Big 4 Accountant | Episode 5: Sunny Yang

    When the world went into lockdown, Sunny rethought his dream to be a professional fencer. Hearing from friends at university saying it was a glorified Netflix subscription, he knew he wanted to make a financially smarter decision. Originally planning on studying Law at university, he took a gap year and landed a Master’s degree level Accounting apprenticeship at EY. He’s now on track to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with not one but 2 international qualifications. As the youngest chair of the Chartered Accountant Student Society of London and the first Chinese person to hold the position in its 100+ year history, Sunny is definitely one to watch!     From A* History Student to Woman in Tech | Episode 4: Lauren Alie

    Despite turning down the male-dominated Computer Science class at her grammar school, Lauren had a change of heart to a career in Tech, after completing a course with CodeFirstGirls. During this time, she also discovered a brand new Technology Degree Apprenticeship launched by PwC and the University of Birmingham. Unique to other degree apprenticeships on offer, it allowed her to get the full university experience from a Russell-Group provider, all whilst earning a salary and working in several of PwC’s Technology teams. She’s since graduated debt-free with a First Class degree in Computer Science, won the coveted title of ‘Apprentice of the Year’ and has now jumped into the dynamic world of startups with Entrepreneur First.     From Future Doctor to Youngest Solicitor | Episode 3: Hamza Islam

    During an eye-opening hospital work experience as a teenager, Hamza began to question whether Medicine was really the best career choice for him. After accidentally stumbling across the world of Law, he also discovered one of the UK’s best kept secrets: Solicitor Apprenticeships. No debt, a free law degree, £20k+ starting salary, work experience and a guaranteed path to becoming a Solicitor. So, despite having straight A*s at A-Level and university offers from LSE and UCL, he turned them down to become part of the first ever cohort of Solicitor Apprentices at Norton Rose Fulbright. Now living his “Suits” dream, he shares the incredible opportunities he’s had working for an international law firm since 18, why he chose a degree apprenticeship and his words of wisdom for parents and students.     From Depression to Chocolatier | Episode 2: Aaminah Ahmed

    After suffering with depression amidst the pandemic and losing all confidence with plummeting grades at sixth form, Aaminah knew something had to change. Despite voices around her telling her to give up, she used them to spark a fire inside to claw back some of her lost education. Deciding to take a gap year to carve a new identity outside of school, she set up her charity, Help The World Oxford, and found a love for the Foods & Drinks industry through her catering business. With her newfound determination, she successfully landed a degree apprenticeship at Mondelez and now works with some of the most iconic chocolate brands in the world including Cadbury’s & Toblerone! Her story is a poignant reminder of the light that can often follow your hours of darkness.     From Homeless Student to Straight A's | Episode 1: Carlo & Haider

    Join us in this episode as we unravel the incredible journeys of your hosts Carlo and Haider. From experiencing homelessness and being diagnosed with autism, to leaving school with no GCSEs, Carlo's path was filled with obstacles. However, his unwavering determination propelled him to later achieve three A* grades in his BTEC course at college, opening the door to university. However, Carlo made a bold choice: he turned down his university offer at Kings College London in favour of a Technology Degree Apprenticeship at NatWest Markets, setting himself on a unique and empowering journey. From attending an Ofsted Special Measures school ranked bottom 3 in England and growing up as the eldest of 6 in one of the most deprived postcodes in the UK, Haider became the anomaly his environment said he couldn’t be by achieving As & A*s at both GCSE and A-level. Despite landing top university offers from LSE and UCL, he made the brave decision to turn them all down in favour of a Master's degree-level Finance apprenticeship at Engineering giant Rolls-Royce, later becoming one of the UK's youngest Chartered Management Accountants. Both these individuals are proving that unconventional paths can lead to extraordinary success.
