The Power of Sound (with Darren Abrahams)

The Power of Sound (with Darren Abrahams)

Darren is an inspiration to those that aspire towards facilitating trauma healing on an individual, communal and global level.   From being an opera singer he’s found himself on a journey to deep inner healing through the use of embodied approaches and sound which he has brought to many traumatised and displaced communities across the world.  This podcast explores:
How can safety, belonging and expansion be achieved with displaced people?
How can those not trained as therapists be an essential therapeutic presence with those in trauma?
How can the power of sound assist in establishing emotional regulation?
Can sound be an effective medium in healing deep cultural wounds and taking us towards interpersonal peace and global harmony?
Darren eloquently describes how a balance of hope and his reluctance to force outcomes has facilitated some blossoming achievements in training may non therapists in doing deep healing work through promoting emotional regulation, interpersonal connection and inner safety.  From this stable foundation his teams have supported many to thrive and experience personal expansion as they reconnect with their people and purpose.  In a world where so many institutions and leaders have lost their way in terms of integrity and meeting the needs of their people, his groups continue to hold compassion, collaboration, coregulation and love as the powerful central guiding principles to humanity and deep healing.  An inspiration and refocus on the true purpose of togetherness.

Addiction: 'It's hard to get enough of something that almost works' (with Dr Roby Ables)

Addiction: 'It's hard to get enough of something that almost works' (with Dr Roby Ables)

This episode is with the soulful Dr Roby Ables, Psychotherapist, and Senior Brainspotting Trainer based in Australia.  Have you every wondered:
How addiction attracts so much shame?
What’s trauma got to do with addiction?
    When addiction  'works'?
Is there a connection between addiction to drugs, alcohol, porn, shopping and eating issues
How can love and conscious awareness really help in healing  trauma and pain?
To answer these questions, Roby is incredibly generous in sharing her personal experiences of intergenerational trauma, early life attachment wounds and her subsequent journey through addiction and into many years of recovery.  It is so enthralling to hear how addiction became her guide into her healing and how trust, faith and incredible spiritual transcendence uplifted her at a time of great distress.  Here we learn about the significance of trauma in addiction patterns and the multi layers of inter and intrapersonal connections that are central on the path of healing.  Throughout we can hear the importance of the soul in healing addiction and associated mental health problems as Roby personifies the power of relational healing through Brainspotting Therapy and the potential of plant based medicine.

Planet Earth & Plant Medicine (with Shamir)

Planet Earth & Plant Medicine (with Shamir)

This episode with Shamir offers a compelling  journey through his path of ancestral healing, spirituality, connectivity and joy.  He takes us through his ancestral history from India, Singapore, Austria and other lands before settling in Glastonbury, the Isle of Avalon.   Shamir describes how we are all so richly integrated with our ancestral history and our planet Earth, from where we all belong.  He teaches on the almost ineffable power of plant medicine and how divine tribal circles use psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, and other psychedelics with ceremony, preparation and prayer to reach higher levels of consciousness beyond the ego and towards a truer self.  This conversation attends to the immense power of love in healing and the non dualistic relationship between the collective consciousness of people and planet.

Movement in the Stillness (with Jeff Ryan & Bob Kohl)

Movement in the Stillness (with Jeff Ryan & Bob Kohl)

Jeff Ryan and Bob Kohl bring a fascinating integration of stillness, calm and space with dynamic somatic expression to meet their people’s deep healing.  They speak with touching humility on how alongside their many studies, their most influential teacher has been the growing ability to listen in, and learn from, the deep innate wisdom of the body.  This has been enhanced further with the power of Brainspotting and meditation.  Jeff is a licenced Psychotherapist and Bob a Physician, amongst other things, and perhaps that’s one of the main learnings that come through in this episode; the immense potential in the many versions of our true self goes beyond categories and descriptors to a wisdom that is always there for us when we are ready to follow it.

Pornography, Sex, and Subterfuge (with Dr Elly Hanson)

Pornography, Sex, and Subterfuge (with Dr Elly Hanson)

Dr Elly Hanson is an exceptional Clinical Psychologist and influential thinker in the collective effort to reduce harm and injustice.  She has long been an expert in the field of abuse and trauma with a particular focus on sexual abuse and approaches to healthy and progressive relationships.  In this powerfully insightful episode we discuss online pornography, a subject that receives much attention yet so few intelligent, nuanced and meaningful discussions in the professional field.

Together we explore the rich and complex area of online pornography in relation to actors, viewers and the impact on the development of the sexual and relational self.  Dr Hanson's work includes the latest findings in research which she shares with such a richness and well balanced way that never seeks to pathologise but to understand what makes people tick in terms of their deepest and most private needs.  Here she introduces the listener to the all pervasive concepts of finite versus infinite play and how these are such insightful philosophical and spiritual concepts to guide all facets of human interaction.

This work is of central importance in the re-balancing of healthy relationships in ourselves, with our friends and loved ones, sexual partners, and also with professionals, organisations and policy makers.
