The Mondo Beyondo Show Presents Oliver & Company

Well, we're back annnnnnnd that's about the best we can say for ourselves.  During our brief hiatus the world really went to hell, didn't it?  Behind the scenes it hasn't been too great for us either but we knew we needed to get back in the studio and release a new episode for all of you who have been patiently waiting.  All nine of you. In this episode, we look at Bette's 1988 HBO Special The Mondo Beyondo Show and 1988's animated Disney non-classic Oliver & Company.  They were certainly things to watch! You'll also hear talk about the Oscars, a few 70s sitcoms, a possibly controversial opinion regarding Demi Moore, some unnecessary talk about the later Scream movies, and you'll find out what Oliver & Company has in common wtih Severance! This one was fraught with audio issues and has more ADR than usual. See if you can figure out where Bradley dubbed Sean! Justice for Sheryl Lee Ralph! Don't forget to rate and review wherever you get your podcasts!   SHOW NOTES Maria "Money Honey" Bartiromo and Laura "White Frankenstein's Monster" Ingraham Are Going to Make the Kennedy Center "Hot" Better Things starring Oscar Winner Mikey Madison and Pamela "Used to be on The Facts of Life" Adlon (née Segall) Philip McKeon Whoopi Goldberg straddled the line between comedy and performance art. This one is a personal favorite. Big Business

Note: This was recorded on June 30th, so it was after the debate (which we wisely cut all mention of) and before anything that has transpired in our political hellscape since then.  On with the show!  No matter what day it is, it's time to put on your Tuesd'y panties as we travel from Jupiter Hollow, WV to NYC where we will raise some hell and kick some snooty New York aye-ass! In this episode, we discuss a reappearance by Bettecetera fave Barry Primus, revisit West Virginia Hot Dogs, and dig deep into a film that in another universe might have starred Barbra Streisand and Goldie Hawn. We also talk about adults doing children's voices, the merits of Metacritic vs Rotten Tomatoes, and we even create a little speculative fiction about the origins of pay-per-view.  See you again soon and make sure you leave us a 5-star rating (and maybe a review) if you haven't yet.  And don't forget - Bette's new movie, The Fabulous Four, opens on July 26th! SHOW NOTES Martin Mull, scene-stealing actor from 'Roseanne', 'Arrested Development', dies at 80 Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter)'s reactions to Gene Parmesan I Am: Celine Dion trailer The Ugliest House in America The Mole Instant Hotel (hosted by Juliet Ashworth) is unfortunately not streaming anywhere stateside at the moment Interet Archive (our beloved) has actually archived many of the MTV News articles that were on the now-defunct MTV News site Deborah Rush Nicolas Coster played Mr. Shelton We are considering starting a GoFundMe to go see Audra in Gypsy The History of the West Virginia Hot Dog Jesus is Coming. Outrageous Fortune

It took some fits and starts and couple of meltdowns by our editor (Bradley) but the Outrageous Fortune spectacular is finally here!  In this episode, Bradley and Sean dig deep into the well-known lack of camaraderie between Bette and Shelley Long while working on the picture, and the facts might surprise you! We also talk about how the character of Stanislav Korzenowski might be a play on the Konstantin Stanislavski and Bradley spends much of the episode confusing the two names not noticing. Finally, we even make a connection to Avril Lavinge's 2002 hit Sk8r Boi! If you haven't already don't forget to leave us a 5-start rating and/or review wherever you get your podcasts!   SHOW NOTES   Here are the original TikTok videos Bradley did about the feud in 2021 Konstantin Stanislavski Bette's tweet about the campus protests  The Hamlet soliloquy that gave us the phrase "Outrageous Fortune" "Despite the way things turned out [with the AIDS crisis]," Midler told the Houston Voice, "I'm still proud of those days [when I got my start singing at the gay bathhouses]. I feel like I was at the forefront of the gay liberation movement, and I hope I did my part to help it move forward. So, I kind of wear the label of 'Bathhouse Betty' with pride." The eternally handsome Christopher (sometimes just Chris) McDonald The AV Club interview with Bronson Pinchot The Washington Post article that cracks the feud wide open Avril Lavinge's "Sk8r Boi" Jerry Zaks, who cameos as the smoke shop proprietor, has a long career directing for the stage and screen, including directing Bette's 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly! Bette She Could Have Done It: Bettecetera Rocks Chicago

We hope you're ready to let us pepper your ragoût with a special episode that opens and closes with talk of Bette but spends the middle talking about the 2003 Best Picture Chicago. We have survived editing mishaps and background animal noise (Rosie's jangling tags and rapid panting are special guest stars throughout!) to bring this to you, so please join us on a journey that starts with some listener mail and more of Bette's bad tweets, then we'll time travel to the 1970s to imagine a version of Chicago starring Bette and Cher. After that we'll visit the 2000s to reminisce about dual layer dvds. We'll bring you back to today, but not before a brief sojourn to the 2010s for a conspiracy involving Meryl Streep.
