Art with Heart are an award-winning Salford based arts company, we design and deliver performances, workshops and people-led creative projects for community groups, arts organisations and schools across the UK. We believe that when people come together through art, they have the power to make change and that change can take place where it's needed: in theatres, classrooms, community centres, libraries, on trams – and even in caravans - using whatever art form fits best: plays, podcasts, workshops, films and exhibitions. Salford Voices Handing the mic to everyday Salfordians 2026 marks 100 years since Salford was officially granted city status, and we’re on a mission to capture what it truly means to be from Salford, putting Salfordians firmly at the heart of the centenary celebrations. To celebrate Salford’s big birthday, we teamed up with local artists and communities across the city to share stories from the past and present and to listen to what people hope the next 100 years will bring. How can we come together and build a future that accommodates everyone? Art with Heart have commissioned 13 artists to produce provocations for a mini podcast series, and invites you to listen to their challenges. To engage with their perspectives. To consider a better future. This series also includes a special one-off episode exploring what equality means to children in Manchester and what adults can do to make things better for the next generation.     Matt Smith, 47, Higher Broughton Matt is the proud secretary for the Salford Red Devils Supporters Trust. In this episode, the rugby fanatic and community member talks about discovering his love of rugby in a family of football fans, the importance of the Rugby League to Salford’s working class communities, and the shift in young people’s aspirations in his local community.     Salford Voices l Salfordians l Episode 2 "It feels like coming home"

    Lorraine Giddings, 49, South Swinton When Lorraine came to Salford from Devon at the age of 18, she was warned against it. But in reality, Lorraine was welcomed with open arms and the move felt like coming home.     Salford Voices l Salfordians l Episode 3 Graveyard surprises

    Paul Sherlock, 78, Swinton Although Paul’s origins are on the other side of the ship canal in Urmston, he’s lived in Swinton since 1970. From scientist to local historian: Paul made it his mission to delve into the area’s controversial urban spaces. But only after a surprise encounter with a long-lost relative did he find real belonging. Paul is passionate about sharing the stories of Swinton and the importance of passing down his knowledge to the next generation.     Salford Voices l Salfordians l Episode 4 Civic pride through creativity

    Skäi Townsend, 29, Walkden South Skäi’s Irish grandfather moved to Salford when he was 16, and for the dancer turned actor turned local cultural producer, strong Salfordian pride has run in her family's blood ever since. In this episode, Skäi recalls memories of her mother’s stall at the local flea market and reveals some of Salford’s fascinating hidden heritage.
