Changing Suits

Taj & Bal

Members of the South Asian Community often go through similar experiences, but don’t discuss problems outside of family out of concern for ‘what the community will say’. Over time, this has led to taboo topics, isolation, oppression, and inequality. And enough is enough. Hosted by second generation British South Asian sisters Taj and Bal, the Changing Suits podcast helps members of the South Asian Community across generation, gender, and geography develop a common understanding and awareness of issues affecting the community, so that the community can thrive. The podcast also gives people outside of the community an opportunity to deepen their understanding of South Asian culture and values so they can help build services, companies, and a society that are better and more inclusive. 1. Cancel Culture, Online Backlash & the South Asian Divorce Debate | Changing Suits Podcast

Cancel Culture, Online Backlash & the South Asian Divorce Debate | Changing Suits Podcast

In this episode we discuss cancel culture, online backlash, and the viral divorce debate that sparked controversy online in the South Asian community. We explore how social media outrage can quickly lead to someone being “cancelled” for sharing an opinion online. This conversation was sparked by a snippet from one of our previous podcast episodes where we discussed the idea that divorce has become “fashionable.”  The clip generated strong reactions online and ignited a heated debate across our social media channels. Some people agreed, others strongly disagreed - and it raised a bigger question for us: Can we still have honest conversations online without being judged or cancelled? We explore how social media can amplify opinions, take comments out of context, and create a culture where public perception can quickly turn against you. At the same time, we discuss what freedom looks like and how people online can "control" the narrative of certain topics.  This podcast aims to open the door to honest, respectful discussions around the topics many people think about but rarely talk about openly. In this episode we discuss: • Cancel culture and online backlash • How social media can escalate debates • The response to our divorce discussion clip • Why certain topics remain taboo in South Asian communities • The pressure of public opinion in the digital age • Whether difficult conversations should be avoided or addressed Whether you agreed, disagreed, or were somewhere in the middle, this episode is about creating space for conversation rather than shutting it down. If you enjoy honest discussions around culture, relationships, and modern social issues in the South Asian community, be sure to follow the podcast and share your thoughts.
