Jeff Jarvis is an American journalist, associate professor, public speaker, and former television critic. He is the director of the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the City University of New York and has been a vocal advocate for the Open Web and the importance of innovation in journalism. 
Jarvis is the author of several books, including What Would Google Do? In a nation nearly evenly split between conservatives and liberals, the left dominates nearly all major institutions, including universities, the government, and corporate America. Hanania argues that this is as much a legal requirement as it is an issue of one side triumphing in the marketplace of ideas. Culture has its own independent force, but the state has, since the 1960s, been putting its thumb on the scale. In the conversation, we dive into the roots of the concept of "wokeness" and its deep-seated origins in American society, dating back to government mandates and regulations from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
