The Serial of music podcasts

Bret Williams gallantly attempts to rescue the classical guitar from a 21st century wormhole while contemplating a career in advertising...or at least any job that will pay him more money than teaching five year olds how to play the guitar. Rallying against the navel gazing pretentiousness of postmodern classical guitar compositions Bret seeks out a new classical guitar paradigm and puts his money where his mouth is by composing new music for a quartet. The ad libbed intros are often as good as the interviews as Bret talks candidly about his personal and professional struggles and successes.

The interviews themselves are relaxed and wonderfully unstructured and cover a range of classical guitarists from international stars to struggling musicians wondering if they will ever make a living. Some of the stories he unearths are fabulous, including the guitarist who packed their life to move abroad and study with one of the greatest players of all time only to be told by the great over the phone upon arriving 'I said you could study with me? I don't even teach'. He also interviews audio engineers, composers and luthiers which take it beyond a one dimensional series.

If you want to learn about correct nail length and arpeggio technique then look elsewhere but if you want something enriching and entertaining look no further.
