    Coastal Birds - Podcast Episode 6

    Episode six of the Young Academy of Scotland’s Coastal Knowledge podcast exploring climate change on the coasts of Scotland the effects of warmer seas, more frequent extreme weather events and higher tides. In this series we will explore the Scottish coast from different perspectives ranging from wildlife preservation to seaweed, golf and archaeology. Birds and their movements can tell us a lot about how we are changing the world. Pandemics also affect non-human populations such as birds and understanding what is happening could be vitally important since we know that diseases can evolve and cross species barriers in both directions. Stories from around the Scottish coast suggest that bird species are colonising new sites and existing colonies are moving. This is happening all along the Scottish coast, and for that matter all across Europe and the world. In the this and the next two episodes we will be hearing about this and how climate change is affecting bird populations on the coast of Scotland.

    Dunes Nature Reserves and Archaeology on the Coast of Scotland

    Find out a bit about how climate change is affecting the Scottish coast from a historical and archeological perspective. In this episode we talk to people from Scotland's National Nature Reserves and two archaeologists from Scotland. This episode is part of a celebration of World Sand Dune Day which started in 2021 and is now an annual event. In 2022World Sand Dune day is on the 25th of June.
