The Illness, the Ancient Rainforest and First Steps to the Roof of Africa

In this episode, our host Damian shares his first-day experiences from the base camp, providing a firsthand account of the sights, sounds, and challenges faced on this epic journey.
As the sun sets over the base camp, Damian paints a vivid picture of their surroundings. With 12 tents and 3 toilets, the camp is a temporary home for 16 adventure enthusiasts, including Darren, Marie, and Frank. Damian introduces us to the diverse group of trekkers and sets the stage for the connections and stories that will unfold throughout the climb.
The day's hike led them through a lush rainforest, with constant uphill terrain challenging the trekkers. The camaraderie among the group and the absence of digital distractions create a unique atmosphere for sharing experiences and forming bonds.
At the end of their first day, they reached Base Camp 1, standing at an impressive 3,000 meters above sea level. Damian reflects on the beauty of the rainforest, the sense of ancient history it conveys, and the slow and steady pace of their ascent.
Damian also shares a personal concern about his footwear, revealing how the wrong choice of hiking boots could have spelled trouble for him. Luckily, his alternate boots proved comfortable for the day's journey.
However, the episode takes a turn as we hear from Darren, who experienced severe stomach issues during the trek. Darren's struggle with discomfort and illness highlights the unpredictable challenges of high-altitude trekking.
Despite the difficulties faced by Darren, the group's spirits remain high, and they look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.

Amazing

I’m loving this podcast, it’s so honest and real. Damian’s voice is very calming to listen to. I feel like on the journey with him and very connected to his journey and everyone else listening in!

Brilliant!

The best pod cast out there on so many levels. So many life lessons. So much proper truth. So much to take away and unpack from every episode. I don’t know why- but I’m still checking the Atlantic weather nervously even if I know Damian is home! Simply Astounding journey and story expertly told.
