Do I Really Hate Men?

Ang Allan-Burns

Do I Really Hate Men? Interesting question and one I have asked myself many times. This is not an 'I hate men' podcast neither is it just an account of my divorce and the many awful events leading up to and during it. This podcast is a safe space to delve into what happens when relationships end, it provides guidance on how to carry on being a functioning adult and/or Single Mum when you feel broken inside. This podcast provides hope sprinkled with humour, at times its emotional at times inspiring and at times sad. I have a message to share with women around the world, come join me and your global sisters for a weekly dose of Superhero Mum inspiration and stories. My mission -to help women and mothers globally to recover from relationship pain, lead meaningful happy lives and inspire their children to succeed. NOTE – I need you to know that I don't hate men! It's important that you know there are many great men out there. Many fantastic fathers and single fathers trying hard to do a great job. I know little about the struggles of single fathers; however, I presume they are numerous common issues we share with these amazing men who strive to do the right thing by their children.

Ep. 70 From Single Mom to Single Powerhouse: Embracing the Empty Nest

In this heartfelt solo episode of "Do I Really Hate Men," Ang shares a personal reflection on transitioning from being a single mom to entering the "empty nest" phase, which she embraces as her new "single powerhouse" era. She opens up about the emotional challenges and pride she feels as her two sons move into their independent lives—one joining the RAF and the other pursuing a career at sea. Ang also addresses a social media phrase she encountered this summer, "married single mom," critiquing its meaning and the way it undermines the true challenges faced by single mothers. (00:00) Introduction and Podcast Overview (02:04) Personal Updates and Life Changes (05:15) Embracing Empty Nest Syndrome (06:42) Book Recommendation: The Let Them Theory (07:58) Listener Stories and Podcast Evolution (09:01) Rant: The Concept of Married Single Moms (20:02) Empowerment and Final Thoughts KEY TAKEAWAYS Transitioning to an empty nest as a single mom is both challenging and empowering. The term "married single mom" diminishes the true struggles of single mothers. Single moms carry full emotional, physical, and financial burdens largely alone. Leaving unsupportive relationships can be an important step toward self-empowerment. BEST MOMENTS "Sometimes a man's only purpose in life is to show you that you'll be just fine on your own." "Single moms are absolutely super women every single day, carrying emotional, physical, and financial burdens alone." "There is no halfway house between being married and being a single mom—if you're not getting support, it might be time to move on."
