If you’re a comic creator, illustrator, art student, and care about how your work functions (and not just how it looks), this podcast is for you. I was inspired by the first episode I listened to, and none have disappointed since. As a comic creator, looking for podcasts from the creator’s perspective is tough. You have to sift through hundreds of Marvel Fanboy podcasts to find one podcast that actually talks about the creation of comics (and it might not even be a good one). This is a podcast is primarily for creators.
Additionally, the podcast speaks from a specific generation’s experiences, as well as from a non-male perspective which is highly valuable not just in the field of podcasts but in comics as a whole. This generational, female/queer, critical perspective is extremely relatable to me. As a Comics educator myself, I consider these dialogues an antidote to the typical fannish rhetoric in comics culture, which in turn encourages outsiders to come in. Comics doesn’t have a great history of inclusivity, and podcasts like this are changing that. Thanks for doing this guys, I’m going to show my students.
Contextualising the title of my review: I’ve been searching for this podcast for over a year! I had listened to one episode on a public computer and thinking I was clever enough to remember the name, closed the PC, two weeks later it was totally gone. My dedication to finding this podcast again says all you need to know about how great it is. I’m delighted to have found this gem again.
