Eliza Clark - author of Penance and Boy Parts: Everything In Conversation

Eliza Clark - author of Penance and Boy Parts: Everything In Conversation

Well, what’s this then?! Welcome to the first edition of Everything In Conversation - where Beth, Ruchira and Oenone chat to the people behind the content that we’ve all been loving!
This week - we will be in conversation with Eliza Clark, the author of Boy Parts and Penance. We LOVED Penance when we read it as our book club choice - and we had loads of questions for Eliza - so we asked her to come and chat to us about the book that we all loved so much!
Was she a chronically online Tumblr girlie? Does she actually care about true crime? And what is it like when you get compared to your characters, especially when those characters do murders…
Penance is out in paperback this week on 2nd May. Grab your copy in your local bookshop or you can buy one here: https://www.faber.co.uk/product/9780571371785-penance/

Ep 19: The Sexualisation of Former Child Stars

Ep 19: The Sexualisation of Former Child Stars

In the week that Jojo Siwa entered her bad gal era - here on Everything is Content we’re unpacking what it means for a former child star to graduate into adulthood. How does the media respond when child-stars reinvent themselves… and why is Jojo Siwa claiming to have invented gay pop? We also take a dive into a story that has lit up the timelines this week of a husband who ghosted his pregnant wife, and her crusade on Facebook to try and find him and serve him divorce papers. Do we have the right to disappear online, and does that go away if we do bad things?

Perfect pop culture commentary

The girls are great at having nuanced takes on the latest hot topics and I always feel smarter after listening to them - this is the podcast I recommend to everyone! I’ve got both my sisters on board and it’s made our group chats even better xx

EmNation ,

Half baked thoughts and ideas but easy listening

Uninspired by their takes on topics e.g. re AI in music not considering (1) how AI works in terms of only replicating what’s gone before and even if AI could release an album it would only reflect the past of an artist and would never offer any future creative outputs or ideas meaning fans would likely not feel it worthy of holding in the same regard as an actual album made by an artist or (2) whether a voice is copyrightable in itself (hint - it’s not) so about what regulation may be desired to stop this from happening if people are uncomfortable) or discussing Taylor swifts album that they had admittedly not listened fully to (not saying people need to be positive about TS but at least have listened and have a unique take). Just always feels like scrolling through twitter on a topic thrown together and expected more interesting takes and independent thinking or don’t see the point in adding this into the podcast universe. Expected better as previous projects from these creators have delivered more nuance and insight and they’re compelling to listen to as a group

What Amy Did ,

Love it!

Love the mix of topics and the girls are really engaging to. A good new find for me
