On today’s episode “Reclaiming My Power: Speaking Up & Feeling Safe”, Tim shares about his experience being stalked, harassed and sexually assaulted. He also discusses toxic masculinity, toxic workplaces and the prevalence of sexual assault in society. Tim turned his experience into his life's mission. For 9 years he’s been a professional speaker to Fortune 1000 companies worldwide (plus in university and military settings) about how to create safe cultures where we can all thrive. SHOW NOTES: Tim shares about… - His childhood; growing up all over Europe (as his dad was in the Air Force) and then the culture shock of settling in New Mexico as a teenager. - What he wanted to be when he grew up, what he studied at university and his first job creating & designing programs for college students. - Being stalked, harassed, sexually assaulted and then receiving letters with pictures of the incident. - Trying to figure out who was sending the letters & pictures, the police being unresponsive and his boss belittling him in a toxic workplace environment. - Friends’ reactions, reclaiming his power and the letters stopping. - Sexual violence being so prevalent in society, the general response to survivors and statistics. - The judicial and patriarchal systems, needing to have honest & productive conversations about masculinity and “nice guys” who engage in predatory behavior. - The “Pyramid of Sexual Violence”, locker room talk, how culture can affect & change people and how some men respond to “no” and rejection. - Therapy and male survivors’ group, writing about being a sexual assault survivor and beginning his journey as a professional speaker in university, corporate and military settings. - Toxic workplaces, “Bystander Engagement”, HR’s role and accountability. - Survivor’s support, respecting boundaries and speaking up.
