    Don't Overthink the Problem

    Stress. Pressure. Deadlines. Bills. Kids. Relationships. Health. Some days it feels like you're carrying the whole world on your shoulders. And no matter how hard you try, the load just gets heavier. Do you ever lie awake at night replaying the same problem over and over? You think through every scenario, every "what if," and still … nothing changes. That's because overthinking doesn't fix your problems. It just steals your peace. A psychologist once compared overthinking to sitting in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn't actually get you anywhere. That's what worry is like. It consumes your energy, eats away at your joy, but leaves you stuck in the same spot. So what's the answer? How do you get through this? 1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you. You don't have to carry the weight of those constant mental gymnastics. You don't have to keep circling round the same fears like a broken record. Instead, you can hand them over – all of them – to the One who already knows the ending. And here's the difference: when you pray and leave it with God, peace steps in. Because you're no longer trying to solve tomorrow in your own head. You're trusting the God who holds tomorrow in His hands. Jesus bore the heaviest weight of all – your sin and mine – at the cross. If He carried that, He can carry this. Your stress. Your fear. Your sleepless nights. Stop going round in circles. Pray. Hand it over. And rest. Because the God who loves you isn't just able to carry your burdens – He wants to. That's His Word.     Step Into Grace

    Now, you may think this a strange thing for me to say, but here it is anyway: religion will wear you out. It'll grind you down with rules, rituals, and guilt trips. And the truth? A works-based faith is like running on a treadmill – no matter how hard you go, you never actually get anywhere. Picture it. You're pounding away at your local gym, sweat pouring down your face, legs burning, heart racing. And when you finally hit the stop button … you're still in the same spot. That's exactly what religion without grace feels like. All the effort, none of the progress. Now listen to this exchange with Jesus: John 6:28-29 The people asked Jesus, "What does God want us to do?" Jesus answered, "The work God wants you to do is this: to believe in the one he sent." Do you see the contrast? They wanted a spiritual workout plan. Do this, don't do that, tick the boxes, pay the dues. But Jesus tears it up and says, simply: "It's not about what you do. It's about trusting Me." Grace-based faith is radically different to works-based religion. It means stepping off the machine and realising that the ground beneath your feet is already solid because Christ has done the heavy lifting on the cross. His "It is finished" up on that cross, just before He died for you, means that you don't have to exhaust yourself trying to earn God's approval. Jesus has already paid the price of your sin. When you believe in Him, you are completely forgiven. So here's the choice: keep running hard but going nowhere … or step into grace and walk with Jesus, free, forgiven, loved. That's God's Word.     For Your Own Good

    Life is full of people telling you what to do – bosses, advertisers, influencers, politicians. Everyone has advice. Everyone has an agenda. But here's the big question: who are you really listening to? As a young man, like many other young adults, I became convinced that the sole purpose of my life was to succeed. I had to become someone. I had to be able to afford all the luxuries that the advertisers told me would make me happy. It won't surprise you to know that the pursuit of success was hollow; that it drove me to the brink of life itself. It was there that Jesus came to find me. Isaiah 48:17 The Lord, the one who saves you, the Holy One of Israel, says, 'My name is Yahweh your God. I teach you for your own good. I lead you in the way you should go.' Do you see the difference? God doesn't just throw advice your way. He teaches you for your own good. He doesn't manipulate you, He doesn't use you, He doesn't mislead you. He guides you because He loves you. And in Christ, that guidance has a face. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." He's not just a spiritual GPS – He's the road itself. Following Him isn't about dry rules or religious rituals. It's about letting the Saviour who died and rose for you lead you into life. So before you listen to the noise, before you allow bad advice to hurt you yet again, stop. Tune your ear to the voice of God. I teach you for your own good. I lead you in the way you should go. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.

    Smart Isn't Enough

    It's easy to sound smart. Anyone can impress with big words, clever arguments, or a sharp tongue. But real wisdom? Real wisdom doesn't come out of your mouth. It shows up in your life. I've always had a sharp mind and a quick tongue. On the one hand, you can argue that that's quite an advantage in life. And it is. But on the other, as happened countless times, it can come across as arrogant, hurtful and rude. God's had to do a lot of work in me to change that - to soften me, to help me empathise … something He's still doing. It turns out that wisdom is a whole bunch more than simply being clever. James 3:13 Are there those among you who are truly wise and understanding? Then they should show it by living right and doing good things with a gentle spirit. Wisdom does not come from being proud. The world may well equate wisdom with high IQ, success, and influence. But for God, wisdom is proven in gentleness. In humility. In living rightly. And here's the thing: we see that wisdom most clearly in Jesus. He didn't strut into Jerusalem with a sword. He entered on a donkey. He didn't crush His enemies. He laid His life down for them. And in that act of humility, He revealed the deepest wisdom of all – the wisdom of the cross. So if you want to assess whether or not wisdom is shaping your life, don't look at how clever you may think you are. Look at how humbly you live. Because true wisdom is always gentle. And true wisdom always looks like Jesus. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.

    Don't Let Screwtape Win

    Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get dragged into arguments about politics, gossip, or the failings of others? You scroll the headlines, you read the comments, you shake your head in frustration … and somehow, without even realising it, your heart fills with angst instead of peace. C.S. Lewis captured this perfectly in his classic book, The Screwtape Letters–a series of fictional letters in which a senior demon, Screwtape, trains his nephew, Wormwood, in how to keep a human soul away from God. Here's one chilling bit of advice: "Let him begin by treating the Patriotism or the Pacifism as a part of his religion. Then let him, under the influence of partisan spirit, come to regard it as the most important part. Then quietly and gradually nurse him on to the stage at which the religion becomes merely part of the 'Cause', in which Christianity is valued chiefly because of the excellent arguments it can produce in favour of the British war effort or of Pacifism." That's the devil's strategy: keep your eyes "out there" so you never deal with what's in here – in your own heart. When you think about it, that's what Christian nationalism is all about. The Apostle Paul sees things differently: Philippians 4:8 Brothers and sisters, continue to think about what is good and worthy of praise. Think about what is true and honourable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. You can't control the whole world. But you can choose where you fix your mind. And when you set it on Christ, His peace rules your heart. So this week, don't let Screwtape win. Refuse to live in endless outrage. Rather, fill your mind with what is true and pure – and let Jesus reshape you from the inside out. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.

    The Paradox of Grace

    Pride is so sneaky. It creeps in when you succeed, when people applaud you, when you think you've finally got your life together. But here's the thing – pride is always a lie. Because without God's grace, none of us can even take our next breath. Charles Spurgeon once said that "The more grace we have, the less we'll think of ourselves, because grace, like light, reveals our impurity." Ain't that the truth! Step into a dark room and everything looks just fine. But flick on the light switch and suddenly you see the dust, the cracks, the mess. Grace works just like that. It exposes our sin … but only so we can run to the One who cleanses us. Here's how God puts it: James 4:6 But God gives us even more grace, as the Scriptures say, 'God is against the proud, but he is kind to the humble. (ICB) The proud resist the light. They'd rather stay in the shadows, pretending that everything's fine. But the humble let God's grace shine in. They admit their weaknesses. They confess their sin. And in that place of humility, God doesn't condemn – He pours out His kindness. That's the paradox of grace. The lower you bow, the more He lifts you up. The less you cling to your own strength, the more His power rests on you. So don't be afraid of the light. Let grace reveal your need. Because the God who humbles also heals … and in Christ, He gives you more grace than you could ever imagine. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.

    Chop the Wood, Feel the Heat

    Mondays can feel tough, can't they? The alarm goes off, the week stretches out in front of you, and all you want to do is hit snooze. But here's the truth – how you begin your week shapes how you'll finish it. Yep, it can be tough mustering up your motivation on a Monday morning. But think about it: there's something noble, something enriching about getting into it again (whatever your "it" happens to be) and doing your very best, wouldn't you agree? There's something about putting in the effort that returns its own reward. Which, I guess, is why Henry Ford once said: "Chop your own wood and it'll warm you twice." First, when you put in the effort, and again when you enjoy the reward. That's true of firewood – and it's true of life. Proverbs 14:23 In all hard work there is profit, but talk only makes a man poor. (BBE) There are no shortcuts to a fruitful life. Endless daydreaming and talking cannot replace the simple, faithful act of getting on with it. Hard work may not always feel glamorous, but God's designed it to bless us – not just in what it produces, but in what it shapes in us. And here's the deeper truth. In Christ, your work is never wasted. The Apostle Paul wrote centuries later that whatever we do – whether in word or deed – we do it for the Lord (Colossians 3:17). That means your Monday morning emails, your commute, your unseen acts of service … all of it becomes sacred when done for Him. So today, don't just talk about what you'll do. Put your hand to it. Chop the wood. Work diligently. And let the warmth of God's purpose in Christ carry you through the week ahead. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.

    One God, One Saviour

    We live in a world that offers a thousand different saviours. Politicians promise to rescue the economy. Technology claims it'll solve every problem. Self-help gurus insist that they can fix your life if only you'll buy into their program. But in the end, each and every one of them falls short. Back in 2008, the global financial crisis shook the world. Banks collapsed. Markets crumbled. For years, people had trusted that the system would always keep them safe. But in the space of just a few short weeks, trillions of dollars vanished. What everyone thought was secure … wasn't. Now listen to this: Isaiah 43:11-12 I myself am the LORD, and there is no other Saviour. I am the one who spoke to you, saved you, and told you those things. It was not some stranger who was with you. You are my witnesses, and I am God." (This is what the LORD himself said.)' Crystal clear, isn't it? There is one God. One Saviour. One Redeemer. Israel's story was full of moments when they chased after false gods, only to be disappointed. And God reminds them: "It was Me. It was always Me." And then – centuries later – that truth took on flesh and blood in Jesus. He is God's rescue plan. He is salvation. Not wealth. Not power. Not politics. Only Christ. Whatever else you may have put your faith in, know this: if it hasn't already failed you, one day it will. So, when everything else around you feels shaky, don't put your trust in temporary saviours. Put it where it belongs – in the only One who never fails: Jesus. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.
