A mixed bag (of groceries)
Let me start by saying I love Erin and Bryan. I’ve been listening to Attitudes since 2015, and it is a testament to their talent that I would want to listen to this spin-off show about American grocery stores all the way from the UK.
However… this show is unfortunately hard to listen to for someone recovering from an eating disorder. Both of these lovely hosts have obviously been impacted by toxic diet culture, and it is so difficult and grating to hear them divide food into “good and bad” categories, talk about having to “earn” food by working out, and even throwing away food because they “can’t trust themselves to have it in the house”. These are all really sad and unhealthy ways to talk about food on a show that is supposed to be joyously celebrating groceries, cooking, and produce.
I say all this with a heavy heart and hope that the hosts can bring some of the inclusive, loving, liberatory, respectful attitudes they apply to Attitudes to Groceries, for their own well-being and happiness 💖
