    A theological system that interprets the Bible by dividing history into distinct periods called "dispensations," each characterized by a unique way God interacts with humanity. Dispensationalism emphasizes a literal interpretation of scripture, particularly Old Testament prophecies about Israel, and distinguishes between God's plan for Israel and his plan for the Church.
