full disclosure i have never once listened to this show on apple podcasts but spotify doesn’t believe in leaving reviews so i am crossing enemy lines just this once.
i discovered this podcast at a pretty rough time in my life, having just entered therapy following a brief hospitalisation when things got real low. while in therapy, we discussed that it was key for to me to find something to look forward to. something that i could plan ahead to so that i just had to get through a, b, c and then i’ll have not only made it to the next episode but to the next week. we discussed how it was important to be able to find something to take comfort in. something to be able to get lost in or distract myself with or find familiarity in, something that was easily accessible at a time of need and something that i could always go back to. because i lack a mind’s eye, we figured that books may not be the right move and it was soon after that i discovered the new flesh horror movies horror news scary movie, a show that would not only help me through the worst time of my life but go on to soundtrack most of the greatest.
i’m sure brett and jesse will take less than no credit for the profound impact this podcast has had on me and my life, but i really do just want to say thank you to them both .. and to louis, scout, randall, alex, hoff, charles and the many other amazing guests that have been featured on the show (emma stefansky back on the pod when!?) .. and also most certainly thanks to mark over at roger and me, an equally exceptional movie review show that everybody should check out.
thanks to me essentially needing to have my headphones in every waking minute of the day (autism and the lack of an internal monologue means i really get overwhelmed if i don’t have like one singular sound in my ears), i listen to this show almost all day every day and it has truly been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. there are episodes i have listened to thirty times, episodes i can recite like i’m watching home alone two on christmas morning, specific episodes that i will listen to during a walk or a workout and, most importantly, episodes that i will listen to during my less than enjoyable spirals and i will never be able to truly express how thankful i am that those in particular are there.
i see now that this has become more of a direct message to brett rather than an actual review so i’ll wrap it up by saying if you’re looking for the perfect horror podcast to soundtrack your often monday, sometimes wednesday, once in a while thursday, occasionally fortnightly or potentially once a month walk, run or commute, i absolutely could not recommend this show more. it’s the most consistently great but inconsistently uploaded show on the airwaves.
