Superb analysis by Phil Walker on the England v NZ Lord’s Test! How refreshing to hear a balanced view rather than simply jumping on the bandwagon! I was fortunate to be there all 4 days and while the pitch and weather wasn’t ideal I found the game compelling and, for the first two days, exciting! Of course the wicket was unexpectedly poor, but the bowlers still had to bowl well, batters had to work hard for their runs and the fielders had to hold their catches! As was summarised it was not a pitch for every test match but it still made for compelling cricket! Also, Phil and Ben are spot on (and Cam less so, who surely understands management’s job is to get the best out of all players even the difficult ones) about Ollie Robinson’s “treatment”! Thank goodness common sense has finally prevailed!

Very surprised and disappointed to hear Booth suggest the current issue regarding Pakistani players at the hundred is a problem of ‘perception’. How about a problem of xenophobia, discrimination, employment law and of bringing outside geopolitics into sport? The perception is the tip of a very murky and frankly unpalatable iceberg. Yet again the lesson cricket is teaching…..filthy lucre always wins kids!!
