Steven and Sean want to watch all the movies. No really, ALL the movies. We're both filmmakers (although Sean's been dabbling in other things) who love to talk about all the movies we see.     Sunset Blvd.: I Am Big. It’s the Pictures That Got Small.

    Send us Fan Mail On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are going to recapture the magic, no matter the cost. We watched the 1950 film from Billy Wilder, Sunset Boulevard. It’s a tale as old as the movies themselves: an actor achieves success, their star burns brightly, and then everything fizzles out and moves on. That’s what happened for the once-great Norma Desmond, and the consequences were severe. Poor Joe Gillis. All he wanted to do was write entertaining, meaningful movies. Unfortunately, he hitched his wagon to an unstable person. It sure makes for an affecting classic of cinema, though. Lucky us! We’re kicking off Sean’s birthday month with a one-two comedy punch, featuring two of the greatest actors to have ever graced the screen. Nobody knows bring grumpy and old like those two. What better way to celebrate/mourn Sean's journey into old-guy-hood than by jumping headfirst into these two movies? No matter where you are, no matter what you’re doing, even if literal aliens are attacking the world, rest assured that Ice Cube will be watching you. He has the technology. He also has high-level government clearance. Is that as creepy as it sounds? You’d better believe it! We are all for him saving the world from alien invaders, but we don’t want him watching us while we shower. The creep. Perhaps we’d all be better off if he was just fighting gigantic snakes in the Amazon. After watching this film, which featured people doing some of the most heroic work we know of, we can only help but think, Why the hell would anyone ever want to do that job? Seriously, it looks like one of the worst things imaginable. But it sure makes for a good movie and a heck of a conversation (and a warning to anyone considering working in an ambulance). What, you think vampires are the coolest immortals around? Did you ever consider that maybe there’s a better eternal being out there? Maybe one that’s taught how to be a badass sword fighter by an Egyptian guy with a Spanish name and a Scottish accent? Maybe Connor MacLeod can’t turn into a bat and fly wherever he pleases, but at least he doesn’t have to drink blood for his sustenance. This dude can have a pizza or French fries whenever he wants.     Kung Fu Hustle: Talk to the Hand

    Send us Fan Mail On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are turning our lives around and taking down the bad guys. We watched the 2004 film from Stephen Chow, Kung Fu Hustle. In life, when faced with the choice of whether to be a force for good or succumb to the evil in the world, we hope that you’ll choose the former. We’ll all be better off for it. Consider the story of Sing from this movie: down on his luck, he falls in with a bad crowd. A real bad crowd. Instead of giving into his worst instincts, he discovers how rewarding the other path can be. And he basically gets superpowers. Sounds like a good trade-off to me.     Parasite: This Is So Metaphorical

    Send us Fan Mail On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are just trying to get even a little bit ahead in this life for once. We watched the 2019 film from Bong Joon Ho, Parasite. Who’s really to say that the Kim family is wrong to do everything they did to the Park family in this movie? I’m certainly not advocating for any of the violence depicted here, but man, people gotta eat. At the very least, nobody should have to live in a home that fills with sewage whenever there’s a particularly bad storm. That’s demeaning as hell! Suffice it to say, this move is great and eat the rich.
