A Pharmacist Obeys the Rules and Abandons a Patient

Dr. Wilner would love your feedback! Click here to send a text! Thanks! Welcome to Episode #2 of The In-Between Episodes. If you remember, these in-between episodes will occur in between the more formal interviews that happen every other week and that have happened every other week for the last seven years. Last week on the Art of Medicine, I had a great discussion with 401k specialist Ross Powell. I learned that a 401k is not only a retirement vehicle, but can be a powerful real estate investment tool as well. Next week, September 13, Jess Wright is going to tell us about his debut novel inspired by years of practicing psychiatry. It's titled, Dance in a Madhouse, and I can't wait to read it. Today, I'm going to tell you a story about how a 3rd party, in this case a corporation, slid between a well-meaning pharmacist and a desperate patient, which potentially fatal results. Learn about rabies with Dr. Wilner here: https://www.vumedi.com/video/rabies-update Psychiatrist and medical ethicist Ronald Pies, MD, assisted me with the research for this episode. Imagining your retirement with 401k guru Ross Powell

Dr. Wilner would love your feedback! Click here to send a text! Thanks! Many thanks to Ross Powell, Founder of Survival 401k. After leaving the Navy, Ross worked for many years in the financial and insurance industries. About 12 years ago, he founded Survival401k, where he helps self-employed individuals create and manage a 401k.  Traditionally considered a retirement vehicle for stocks and bonds, a 401k can also be used for investing in real estate, other nonconventional investments, and asset protection. One can even take a loan from one's own 401k! During our 30-minute program, Ross shared his financial experience and insights. Although he is not a certified public accountant (CPA) or certified financial planner (CFP), Ross knows the 401k vehicle inside and out. To contact Ross, go to his website: https://www.survival401k.com/ Or his personal cell: 210.639.7227 PS: If you mention you heard Ross on The Art of Medicine, you’ll earn a $100 discount on his services. Managing grief with Kelly Edmondson and "Timely Presence"

Dr. Wilner would love your feedback! Click here to send a text! Thanks! Many thanks to nurse and grief counselor Kelly Edmondson for joining me on Episode #170 of The Art of Medicine with Dr. Andrew Wilner.  Kelly founded “Timely Presence” after the tragic loss of her oldest son, Darius, to SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy). Darius had epilepsy that he treated with medication, but Kelly never suspected that he could die suddenly. His death was a shock unlike any other. “Timely Presence” is designed to help people after the immediate social support surrounding the funeral disappears. The first 12 months following the loss of a loved one, especially on key days like anniversaries, birthdays, and Mother’s and Father’s Day, are particularly stressful. While friends and colleagues may wish to help, they may not know how. “Timely Presence” helps reframe the rituals that accompany these special days. As a bereaved mother and grief counselor, Kelly also offers advice for those suffering from grief. For more information, contact Kelly at https://thetimelypresence.com. #grief #death #bereavement @kellyedmondson @timelypresence                          Please click "Fanmail" and share your feedback! Pet Longevity Tips with Kevin Toman, DVM

Dr. Wilner would love your feedback! Click here to send a text! Thanks! Many thanks to Kevin Toman, DVM, for joining me on The Art of Medicine with Dr. Andrew Wilner. Kevin graduated from veterinary school back in 1986 and has more than 40 years of clinical experience. More recently, he has become a pioneer in pet longevity medicine and pet cancer navigation. He now runs his telemedicine longevity practice out of his home in California. During our 30-minute discussion, Kevin emphasized the importance of diet and lifestyle for pets. His recommendations should resonate with all of us humans who are trying to optimize our health, which includes plenty of exercise but avoiding exercise that puts undue stress on our joints, and a healthy diet, which means healthy foods to achieve a lean body weight (the opposite of what many of us accomplish!). Kevin suggested that a dog’s diet should mirror that of its owner, with a preponderance of fresh meat and vegetables. Kevin also weighed in on nutritional supplements and pet insurance. When choosing a veterinarian, he strongly advised finding an independent, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)-approved practice.  For questions, Kevin can be reached at Ktomandvm@gmail.com or on his websites: www.HelpingPetsLiveLonger.com and www.freevetcall.com   #pets #veterinarian #petlongevity #AAHA #petinsurance Please click "Fanmail" and share your feedback! Ascending the "Wealth Elevator" with Lane Kawaoka

Dr. Wilner would love your feedback! Click here to send a text! Thanks! Many thanks to Lane Kawaoka, real estate investor, podcast host, and author of “The Wealth Elevator,” for joining me on Episode #167 of The Art of Medicine with Dr. Andrew Wilner. Lane detailed his journey from engineering to real estate investing, eventually transitioning from single-family rental properties to multi-million dollar syndications and commercial deals. He now leads a $2.1 billion real estate company. In his book, The Wealth Elevator, Lane categorizes investors by net worth, ranging from the “basement” to the “penthouse.” The book targets investors with a net worth of at least 1 million dollars. For most of these investors, the goal is “financial freedom.” To obtain this goal, Lane suggested that professionals become a “capital aggregator” rather than trading time for money as an “income generator.” Lane emphasized the limitations of traditional 401 (k) s and IRAs, but conceded that downturns in the real estate market can result in significant financial losses from alternative investments. He recommended asset diversification as a protection against the possibility of failed real estate projects. Lane emphasized the importance of building relationships with accredited investors with significant investing experience. These investors have access to exclusive real estate opportunities sponsored by proven operators. Lane encourages his investors to network with each other and sponsors annual investor retreats. Lane’s website offers information and free courses: https://thewealthelevator.com/home/club/   @thewealthelevator #realestate #investing #syndication #401k  Please click "Fanmail" and share your feedback! We also explored the intriguing and still unexplained observation that music can enhance movement in people with Parkinson’s disease.   Dr. Gilbert highlighted the new American Parkinson’s Disease Association public service announcement launched for Parkinson’s Awareness Month, “Do What You Do.” This campaign showcases people with Parkinson’s who continue to pursue their passions despite the challenges of the disease.   Finally, Dr. Gilbert reviewed recent advances in Parkinson’s disease treatment, including adaptive deep brain stimulation and subcutaneous infusion pumps.
