BMVT: Venting With Demetrius Short ✌🏽

Good Morning Nashville ☀️ IT’S A NEW DAY! A NEW WEEK! 📅 And a new month to once again fight the fight of mental health here in our never growing city of Nashville. Being the number one mental health podcasting platform in the city, we make it imperative to ensure each month you guys are blessed with a mental health story. Because it’s been proven, that if you listen to a black man share their story with us, it might help you in your own mental health journey to navigate things a little bit better. Today’s episode is a good one! Let’s lock in! 🔒 The guest that we have today is affectionately known as “Mr. Don’t Fall Short”. With a nickname like that, you have to know there’s a story behind it. A former Pastor, a devoted husband, and a true advocate for the youth here in Nashville, we present to some and introduce to others none other than Mr. Demetrius Short ⭐️ Mr. Short comes to our platform today to vent about “normalizing mental health for black men”. A point he talks about is how men always come together for the conversations surrounding sports, women, and money … but when are we ever circling around each other to talk about those conversations that are often left in closed doors? As you listen … do know you’re listening to a man that, based off the emergency room diagnostics, he admits to knowing he should be dead. In today’s episode, Mr. Short tells us about how he was preparing for his annual race, not knowing he was putting a massage gun directly on top of an active blood clot. He didn’t know, he just knew there was an unsettling pain that at the time, he used the massage gun to try and mitigate the pain. Being rushed to the ER is where he was told that if there were any other altering occurrences, there’s no telling if hundreds of people would come to support an annual race, or a memorial. This episode is loaded with a lot of dialogue surrounding just how we as black men, have to be more vocal about what we are dealing with physically, mentally, and emotionally. BMVT: Venting With Pastor Dr. George T. Brooks, Jr. ✌🏽

Good Morning Nashville ☀️ NEW MONTH GUYS, WE ARE BACK WITH A NEW EPISODE ‼️ Excited and blessed once again to be providing you guys with another episode of the Black Men Vent Too Podcast. Episodes released in the month of September are near and dear to us, as we pay tribute to this month being recognized nationwide as “Suicide Awareness Month.” BMVT honors those who struggle with this, because we understand no matter your race or ethnicity, it is an active thing that people are dealing with day to day. And it’s platforms like ours that will continue to highlight these conversations, in an effort to change the stigmas associated with it. With that said … let’s get into today’s great episode! We’re excited guys to be bringing a very underrated, faith driven, and soft spoken young man who surely has a resume that speaks louder than he does. Coming from a family of over 80+ years combined in Pastoring dating back to his grandfather, it’s safe to say this brother knows a thing or two about scripture. Myself and my dad are beyond excited to finally have the Pastor of our home church, THE St. James Missionary Baptist Church … none other than Pastor Dr. George T. Brooks, Jr. ⭐️ You guys that follow us week to week know our platform has provided a wide arrangement of guests and backgrounds because we don’t shy away from position titles or specific demographics. We understanding that Pastors deal with mental health issues too, and it’s too often that we expect them to be perfect. In today’s episode, Pastor Brooks, Jr. vents about how there is a lack of concern for church work in today’s world. Church as a whole overtime has been the conversation that divides social groups and communities, when it should be the conversation that brings us together. He vents about how in church, you’ll have plenty of members, but only a few are dedicated to genuine kingdom building. He also vents about Pastoring and the frustrations that people don’t see. One of them being, as a proud father, Pastor Brooks, Jr. shared that he didn’t appreciate when he goes to speak at churches and the Pastor of said church speaks out about his children and the way they look. Not knowing that the way they dress, or how their attire is, was birthed through sacrifice and hardships. Social media has also given a controversial eye to what Pastors lives look like, versus how they really are behind closed doors. It’s a lot to unpack from this one, but one you don’t want to miss. Take some time to listen to a black man vent today. ✌🏽 “Have You Heard A Black Man Vent Today?”™️ We are blessed to have been heard in over 135 countries 🌍 at least one time. Nonetheless, a beautiful baby girl 🌺 was the result of what others may perceive as a bad situation. Destiné talks about her daughter truly being her saving grace, and has helped her along her journey of turning from the world, and leaning more into Jesus and her faith. With that said … let’s get into today’s second episode for our Mental Health & Me Season on the Black Men Vent Too Podcast ⭐️ Coming all the way from Dickson county, talking to today’s guest felt like we were at home in the backyard … enjoying a cookout with family. Speaking of, she is family to us! And it’s just amazing how small the world can be, but how God will connect the dots to get you to where you need to be. 🙏🏽 This young lady surely wears a lot of hats, is truly multi-faceted, and never sits down. BMVT is proud to present to some and introduce to others, the mother, the Doctor, the wife, the coach, and our dear cousin and friend … Dr. Denise Knowles ⭐️ Dr. Denise is a HUGE advocate for family, as she highlights her children, marriage, and how important it is to possess a positive co-parenting dynamic if that is the situation at hand. She vents with us about how she had experienced relationships that were not serving her well. As black women, a bad relationship and the trauma surrounding it can show on their body without us as men even recognizing it. Well, there is a young man by the name of Demetrius Knowles, that assured Dr. Denise that her scars were just a part of a beautiful canvas. Marriage is highly underrated in today’s time because it’s often looked at as a “business” or a contractual agreement. But in today, Dr. Denise talks about how “Dee” helped her to truly embrace her femininity and thrive in it. “Mental Health & ME” With Lavonda “Mikki” Brown ✌🏽

Good Morning Nashville ☀️ WE ARE EXCITED TO BE DEBUTING AN ALL NEW SEASON, DEDICATING THE ENTIRE MONTH OF MAY TO THE BLACK WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY! THE THEME OF THIS MONTH: MENTAL HEALTH & ME ‼️ To anyone listening in today … as black men, we have to really be more intentional behind protecting our black women. With that said … let’s get into today’s first episode for our Mental Health & Me season on the Black Men Vent Too Podcast ⭐️ A native of Kansas City, Missouri, migrating here three years ago, and raised by a single mother that she says “did not play”. We present to some and introduce to others our good friend and sister Mrs. Lavonnda “Mikki” Brown. ⭐️ Being the first out of her siblings to go to college, she originally went to school to be a mathematician. While not taking on that career fully, she was able to learn something’s that led her to working at a bank after graduating from college. She talks to us about going through pregnancy during her 3rd year of school, while working roughly 40-45 hour weeks as well as be enrolled in a dual-enrollment program that had her split between two schools. She gives God all the credit and the glory, and really encourages our audience to walk through their mental health journey with a little more faith. ✝️ But, isn’t it often frustrating when someone will tell you to just “pray” your problems away? For some, it may not be as easy as sending up a prayer, and often times we miss the opportunity to be present by thinking that a prayer is the immediate answer to immediate issues. We talk with Mrs. Mikki about the line between mental health and faith, and how it becomes jaded in conversation with which one should benefit the other.
