Alice Noir Halloween with Oly and Anna

Organizers of Alice Noir Oly and Anna dropped into 8CCC's Brekky show for a chat about this weekend's upcoming Halloween screening at Olive Pink Botanic Garden of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, honouring the great Tim Curry, which will be followed by the seriously spooky Blair Witch Project. Come dressed in your best outfit and settle in for the double feature, or just watch the first film before heading to your Halloween festivities! Costumes are optional but encouraged, with prizes for best dressed. The Bean Tree Café will be serving a bespoke menu, with dinner and drinks from 5:30 – 7pm. There will also be free popcorn provided by Alice Springs Cinema. BYO chair / swag / recliner and get comfy for a spooky movie night under the stars! Birds of Omen EP

Birds of Omen are duo George Ivens and Jez Conlon (Stellar Sea, Storm Chasers Inc, Cooperblack), who joined Kate on 8CCC Brekky following the release of their self-titled EP. Recorded live with guitar and Irish bouzouki, it was engineered by Jez in his studio Left of Elephant Sound, with the two tracks co-written in the red wine moments of a folk festival. Jami Ashenden Sings for Peace

Following her performance as part of MHACHA's Stressless in the Plaza, local musical artist Jami Ashenden spoke on 8CCC Brekky about her latest release Peace. A beautiful song written about losing a friend to suicide, it reflects on grief and the wish for someone struggling to have found peace. She shared her thoughts on the importance of connections with other artists and teachers, as well as current opportunities which include playing piano with Warren H Williams. Protest on the Dancefloor Director Talia Spears-Liddle

Local filmmaker Talia Spears-Liddle chatted with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson about her short film Protest on the Dancefloor, screening this Sunday at 2pm at Araluen Art Centre as part of MASIFF. Recently the recipient of the 2026 Uncle Jack Charles Award at MIFF and named among the contenders for Best Short Film at the 2027 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards, Talia developed the short through the Sovereign Shorts partnership between VicScreen, NITV, and MIFF, featuring artists like Paul Gorrie, Nayuka Gorrie, and Skye Thomas. Protest on the Dancefloor was written and directed by Talia and explores how Blackfellas in Melbourne use music and dancefloors to create spaces of sovereignty, connection and liberation amidst an ever-changing political climate. Opening of Bindi Digital Art Prize Exhibition 2026

With hundreds of entries from across Australia, join Bindi Enterprises in celebrating this year’s finalists for the Bindi Digital Art Prize 2026. The $3000 winner and $500 highly commended will be judged and announced by Asta Hill - Mayor of Alice Springs and Briana Alexander with host Alyssa Mason.This is a free community event, with live music by the iconic Alice Kings and Jacksen on the decks. Apochromatix releases Ceasefire ahead of Change The Narrative

Change the Narrative is on at Ilwempe Ilwempe / White Gums this Saturday from 6-9pm. A huge lineup includes Splinter Sisters, The Shavings, Red Bird Basil from Super Raelene, Anchor & Kite, Andy Sorenson & Kathryn Johnston, Emma Trenorden and Apochromatix. The event is a fundraiser for the Central Australian Youth Justice (CAYJ) Coalition. BYO picnic dinner and drinks. Both new tracks Guria and Ceasefire will be part of our Feature Music this week! Local musician and poet Emma Trenorden visited 8CCC Brekky to invite everyone along, as well as chatting about NT Book Award she won in Non Fiction, for HIGH FIRE DANGER and the NT Writers Centre Poetry Award for her poem Guria in Me, which she read an excerpt on the show. The track Guria, which means earthquake in kuanua, was produced from the poem, about her maternal grandfather. John Vuia was a proud Tolai man who lived his whole life on the volcanic island of Rabaul, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Her partner Liam Campbell joined us later, to announce their new song Ceasefire, written in response to the deaths of Kumanjayi Walker and Kumanjayi White. Liam and Emma collaborated with Warlpiri Elder Ned Jampijinpa Hargraves and Music Producer Andy Sorenson, releasing it under the name Apochromatix, a project band from Mparntwe Alice Springs, featuring them both as well as other musicians. Duprada Dance Company on Aus Art Day

Duprada Dance Company Senior Artist, Tryphena Phillis, took time out to visit 8CCC studios on Aus Art Day. Today is your chance to support this jewel of Alice Springs Mparntwe and help their goal of touring the NT in 2027 come true. Under the banner Sunsets & Soliloquies: Territory Touring 2027 the Company aim to take their original classical and contemporary works choreographed by NT artists Lynne Hanton, Erin Selleck, Miriam Nicholls and Leisa Jackson, while also offering workshops. Duprada Dance Company is supported and funded by their not-for-profit organisation DDC Performing Arts Incorporated - a charitable organisation raising funds for Live Theatre and the Performing Arts. Desert Diamond performer Jordan Vander Schuit visited the Brekky Show to chat about the staging of Desert Rouge at Araluen Art Centre on Saturday 30 October. We chat about the history of Desert Diamonds as well as what to expect on the night.
