Here's the reality - if you're experiencing fatigue, anxiety, weight gain, brain fog, poor sleep, or low libido in this season of your health journey - there's so much more to understand beyond hormone fluctuations! In this episode, Erin explains why midlife health is about more than hormones and why looking at the whole body may help you better understand what you're experiencing during perimenopause and beyond. As a functional health coach who takes a personalized, holistic approach, Erin shares her own experience of struggling with debilitating anxiety, persistent fatigue and feeling unlike herself even after pursuing hormone support (HRT). In this episode, you'll discover: • Common perimenopause and midlife symptoms, including fatigue, belly fat, mood changes, and disrupted sleep. • Why thyroid health, cortisol, blood sugar, gut health and metabolic health matter. • How stress, nutrition, exercise and recovery can influence your overall well-being. • Why your health history and individual needs matter when creating a wellness plan. • What to consider BEFORE exploring hormone replacement therapy (HRT). • Why personalized health strategies can be more useful than assuming the same solution works for every woman. 248 | 3 Practical Tips to Help You Stop Avoiding & Take Action in Midlife!

What if the thing keeping you stuck isn’t a lack of information, time or readiness - but something you’re actively avoiding and choosing NOT to do? Because the hard reality is, it's not only the cost of action. It's also the cost of inaction! In this episode, Erin unpacks why waiting until you feel ready, gathering more information and making excuses can keep you from the health, business, relationships and personal growth you want (and deserve!!) One of the biggest lessons I share on my journey has been learning about whole health and "weak links."And how when you commit to doing the hardest thing first and work most on your "weak links" - that's when the snowball of growth and change compounds more and more over time. For me - nutrition has ALWAYS been my “weak link,” something I have avoided getting better at because planning, prepping, tracking and creating structure felt too difficult, too time consuming, annoying and beyond. But once I committed to the thing I really didn't want to do, I found out new things about myself and the growth I've craved more than ever before. So today's conversation goes deeper into asking:What are you really avoiding? And what's the cost of INACTION? Sometimes “I don't have time,” “I need more information,” or “I need to do more research” isn't the real obstacle. There may be a deeper fear underneath fear of failure, change, discomfort or making the wrong decision that needs to be unpacked too. You'll learn three practical ways to move forward: • Stop waiting to feel ready! • Identify the obstacle underneath the obstacle. • Turn what you're avoiding into a real commitment. The episode also explores the cost of action versus the cost of inaction, and why following through on the commitments you make can help build self-trust. If you've been overthinking a decision, procrastinating on something important, or waiting for the “right time” to make a change, this episode is an invitation to ask yourself: What am I avoiding and what would happen if I finally committed to it? 247 | The Misinformation in Women's Health, What Are We Missing? - with Matt Cusano

When it comes to women's health, what would happen if we really took a step back and started to understand the ways we've been misinformed and misled? In this episode of Empowered in Health, Matt Cusano and Erin Trier explore why women’s health requires looking FAR beyond individual symptoms and understanding the body as an interconnected system. Matt shares more of his perspective around hormone health, perimenopause, metabolic health, gut health, immune health, functional health and the importance of understanding potential root causes rather than focusing only on symptom management. Together, we explore why so many women can feel like they’re doing everything right while still feeling unwell, why “normal” test results may not always answer the questions you have and how a more comprehensive approach can help connect different pieces of the health picture. In this conversation, you’ll hear about: • Why women’s health has often been approached through isolated symptoms • Why perimenopause involves more than hormone fluctuations alone • How stress, lifestyle, metabolism, gut health, and immune health can be interconnected • The difference between conventional medical care and functional health approachesand so much more! Matt also shares how his work evolved from bodybuilding and performance optimization into health, hormone therapy, gut health, and working with complex health cases. He is involved with RYZE Health and Wellness, where he continues to work in the functional health space. If you’ve been told that everything is “normal” but you still don’t feel like yourself, this conversation offers a different way to think about the bigger picture of women’s health. 246 | Why I'm Doing Gut Testing for Our Kids (And What We've Learned!)

What can gut testing reveal about a child's health? In this episode, Erin shares what she discovered after using a GI Map to better understand her 12-year-old son's gut and immune health. After years of navigating complex health challenges, Erin wanted more information about what was happening beneath the symptoms, not simply another way to manage them. She walks through what the GI Map showed, including patterns involving gut bacteria, overgrowth, immune markers, inflammation, gluten activity and H. Pylori. One of the biggest takeaways is the importance of looking at gut resilience before immediately trying to address overgrowth or other findings. Erin explains why she believes the overall ecosystem matters and why the sequence of supporting the gut is the most important thing when interpreting testing. She also discusses: • Why she decided to do a GI Map for her son • What GI Map testing looks at • Gut bacteria, pathogens, parasites, and overgrowth • Secretory IgA and gut immune resilience • Gluten activity and inflammation • Calprotectin and intestinal inflammation • H. pylori and digestive health • Why testing is only useful if you're prepared to act on the information • The connection Erin sees between the gut, immune system, brain, skin, behavior, and overall health • Why she believes targeted data can help families make more personalized health decisions Erin also shares the very real challenge of making nutritional and lifestyle changes as a family and why gathering information is only the beginning. If you're a parent trying to better understand your child's health, gut symptoms, skin issues, food reactions, or overall wellness, this episode offers a firsthand look at one family's experience with targeted gut testing. 245 | Understanding Gut Healing and The Connection That Gets Missed - with Liz Roman

What if your gut healing protocol isn’t failing, but you’re just addressing the wrong things in the wrong order? In this episode of Empowered in Health, Erin sits down with Liz Roman, a functional health practitioner and wellness educator known as the "thepoopqueen" - to unpack the deeper connections between gut health, the immune system, the liver, hormones and metabolic health. Liz shares her own decades-long health journey, including childhood rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s, chronic constipation, inflammation, weight struggles, and the functional medicine discoveries that changed how she approaches healing. Together, Erin and Liz explore why constantly adding supplements, restrictive diets, and eradication protocols may not address the bigger picture and why the body needs the right foundations and sequence for healing. You’ll learn about: • The gut-immune connection and why immune regulation matters • Why “order of operations” can be critical in gut healing • The relationship between gut health, the liver, bile, and hormones • SIBO, leaky gut, food intolerance, and microbiome diversity • Why long-term food restriction may not be the goal • The importance of supporting digestion, stomach acid, elimination, and the gut lining • Why rebuilding and repopulating the microbiome matters after eradication • How lifestyle, stress, sleep, nutrition, and environment can influence healing • Why resilience and consistency matter more than chasing extreme protocols The conversation ultimately comes back to a powerful message: healing is a process and creating the right environment for your body matters. If you're navigating gut health issues, chronic symptoms, restrictive diets, or simply trying to understand what your body needs, this episode will give you a different framework for looking at the bigger picture. 244 | The Truth About Intimacy, Sex and Marriage After Kids and How it Affects Health

What happens when you love your spouse and have a full life, but still feel disconnected Intimacy can become surprisingly difficult when you're balancing kids, work, parenting, health, the mental load and everyday responsibilities. In this episode, Erin gets deeply honest about marriage, emotional connection, sex and what it takes to reconnect during a busy season of life. She shares her personal experience of navigating intimacy struggles with her husband, Dave, not because their marriage was broken or they didn't love each other, but because life had become so incredibly overwhelming, emotionally. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why you can't always expect connection and intimacy to happen spontaneously • Why emotional connection can be an important part of physical intimacy • How mental and emotional overload can affect marriage and intimacy • Why communication matters instead of expecting your partner to read your mind • How body changes and feeling uncomfortable in your own skin can affect your sex life • Simple ways to intentionally reconnect with your spouse • Why small connection points walks, texts, affection, laughter and shared time can matter • When outside support or counseling may be worth considering • Why a difficult season doesn't have to define your marriage Most importantly, this conversation is a reminder that you don't have to wait for life to become less chaotic before choosing your relationship. Sometimes you must intentionally make space for connection, communicate honestly, give each other grace and choose one another again. If you've ever felt disconnected from your spouse despite having a loving marriage, this conversation is a reminder that a hard season doesn't define your relationship and that connection takes intention.
