We met while we were both in the teaching program and remained friends throughout all the chapters of life that followed. She was a devoted teacher with a beautiful heart, and she had a way of making the people around her feel cared for. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, she carried the most beautiful smile, one that could truly warm your heart. She fought with incredible strength and courage, but sadly, we lost her this summer. She would have celebrated her 50th birthday in September. I will always carry her friendship, her smile, and the beautiful impact she made on so many children and families. This episode is for you, my dear friend. You are deeply missed and forever remembered. ❤️ About This Episode How well do you really know your breasts? And what happens when your body is telling you something that medical tests haven't detected? In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pearl Mashour welcomes breast cancer survivor, advocate, and founder of The Fondle Project, Gina LaManna, for an honest and empowering conversation about breast health awareness, early detection, self-advocacy, and learning to trust your body. At 41, Gina knew something wasn't right. Despite receiving two false-negative mammograms and an initial misdiagnosis, she continued searching for answers. Her persistence eventually led to an MRI and a diagnosis of Stage 1B invasive ductal carcinoma. Her journey inspired The Fondle Project, a movement dedicated to helping women become familiar with their breasts, recognize changes, understand their individual breast cancer risk, and feel confident advocating for their health. Together, Pearl and Gina discuss the importance of breast self-awareness, what women should know about lumps and other breast changes, dense breast tissue, and why a normal screening result shouldn't prevent someone from following up on a persistent concern. Gina also walks viewers through a breast awareness demonstration on YouTube, helping women better understand how to become familiar with what is normal for their bodies. Beyond early detection, they explore the emotional realities of breast cancer survivorship, reconstructive surgery, body image, femininity, and rebuilding confidence after treatment. Gina shares how her experience as a personal stylist influences her mission to help women reconnect with themselves. This conversation is also a reminder that breast health education matters for younger women and future generations. Knowing your body, asking questions, and speaking up about changes are practices women can develop long before a health crisis. In This Episode, You'll Learn: Why breast self-awareness matters at every ageHow Gina's persistence led to her breast cancer diagnosis after false-negative mammogramsBreast changes and potential warning signs worth discussing with a healthcare professionalWhy understanding breast density and personal risk factors mattersHow to advocate for yourself when medical concerns feel dismissedThe emotional impact of breast cancer treatment and reconstructionHow women can rebuild body confidence and embrace femininity after cancerWhy conversations about breast health should begin with younger generationsA Reminder About Breast Health Breast self-awareness helps you recognize changes in your body, but it does not replace recommended mammograms, medical evaluations, or other screening based on your individual risk. If you notice a new or persistent breast change, speak with your healthcare provider.
