What Happens When AI Escapes Our Control by 2029 with Dr. Robert Epstein

In 1991, Dr. Robert Epstein ran the world’s first public Turing test competition and predicted computers would become humanity’s companions. He doesn’t believe that anymore. Now he warns that an AI fighting for its own survival could escape into the “internest” by 2029 and that humans may start the war. Since testifying before Congress, Epstein has built a nationwide system that has captured more than 130 million pieces of ephemeral Big Tech content. He says the work has brought break-ins, a strange device hidden in his bag, and the accident that took his wife. He doesn’t perform the fear. He keeps building. Beneath the whistleblowing is an even stranger idea: a theory Epstein calls his life's best work, that human creativity and consciousness may not come from inside us at all. We may be receivers, tuned to the intelligence humanity has always called God. Where do ideas come from? And what happens if a machine reaches the source first? Losing Our Shared Reality Through Personalization with Prof. Joseph Turow

Personalization may be more dangerous than fake news. Fake news can be challenged in public. A reality built exclusively for you is nearly impossible to compare, debate, or even recognize. Professor Joseph Turow explains how media manipulation evolved from 19th-century peddlers and patent medicine ads into AI influencers, retail surveillance, smart TVs, and news feeds capable of changing reality person by person. This conversation is about power, propaganda, data privacy, digital resignation, and the slow disappearance of a shared world. We ask what human freedom looks like when frictionless technology knows how to seduce us better than we know ourselves and why choosing inconvenience might become an act of resistance. The Business Of Comedy Against The Algorithm with Brent Gill

Everyone chasing virality is optimizing for the wrong number. That's the case Brent Gill, a stand-up comedian, show producer, and 20-year veteran of a business built almost entirely on word of mouth makes across this conversation, and the evidence is his own life. The internet convinced creators that attention is the prize. Millions of views can mean almost nothing if you don't know how to monetize attention, build a real audience, or keep creating after the algorithm moves on. His philosophy is brutally simple: get good, stay solvent, keep showing up, and give yourself enough surface area for luck to happen. Laughing Through Grief With Comedy And Chaos With LeMaire Lee

I sat down with LeMaire and this episode starts light, then gradually uncovers the bigger tension beneath it all: how do you stay creative, useful, and sane when the old rules no longer work and real life keeps interrupting the brand you've built? The result is a sharp, funny, and unexpectedly human conversation about loss, ambition, pressure, and the strange systems people create just to keep moving. From AI and online identity to monetizing creativity without losing yourself, the conversation keeps returning to the same deeper question from different angles: how do you embrace new technology without letting it own you? And how does a difficult year reshape what actually matters? This one's funny until it isn't, and then it's funny again. How to Raise Free Thinkers Inside a Broken System with Hannah Frankman

Hannah Frankman skipped college, grew up homeschooled her whole life, and now spends her days convincing parents that everything they think they know about "good schools" is a lie they've been sold. I brought her back on to settle something that's been eating at me: is fixing education about more funding, or is the entire institutional model rotten at the root? We get into the girl who graduated high school with a 4.0 and still can't read, why 21% of American adults are functionally illiterate and why I think the answer isn't reform, it's a thousand different answers happening at once. We get into personal responsibility, why blaming the system feels safer than trusting your own judgment, and why I think AI and the internet are about to shatter the monoculture we've been living in for the last hundred years, in a good way. Hannah makes the case that the answer was never reforming public school it's giving parents real optionality. Being More Japanese Than American with Egan Robinson

Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPROBINSON What happens to a generation of American kids raised entirely on Japanese media once they're old enough to actually go there? Egan Robinson thinks we're carrying a "Japanese seed" inside us planted by Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon, and PlayStation and after three months living in Osaka, he came back convinced it's more real than a joke. We get into why nostalgia for a country you've never lived in might not be nostalgia at all, and why the conversation ends up somewhere near raw milk, seed oils, AI as modern-day demons, and the book series getting men reading again. This is a recap episode, a travel diary, and a two hour rabbit hole into why some people find a piece of themselves in a country they weren't born into. When Anime Becomes Culture with Kaylynn

Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPKAYLYNN Anime is not a niche hobby and it is definitely not “for kids" it’s one of the sharpest storytelling engines on the planet. Kaylynn, aka Anime with KK, has built a career, a cosplay business, and a K-pop dance trio around proving that theory right, and today we put it to the test. We trace how a culture that got Hello Kittied after Hiroshima ended up exporting the biggest unifying force in youth culture worldwide, why the Jolly Roger from One Piece is showing up at protests across the globe, and why cosplay isn't costume play, it's identity work. Somewhere in the middle of arguing about Bleach, Sanji, and Usopp, we accidentally answer a much bigger question about why an entire generation needed somewhere else to go. The WET Playground 2.0

Listen to the full podcast: https://bit.ly/SKMPWET I flew a plane through a thunderstorm when I was thirteen years old. My dad was asleep in the seat next to me, and all I wanted to do was get back to my Game Boy. That story is in here, and so is the story of losing him this year and how three guys who love you show up for that. This one's with the WET crew — Marcus, Justin, and Phil — the closest thing I have to a second podcast family, and we did what we always do: start with 2026 predictions, end up somewhere completely different. Grief, sobriety, growing up wealthy then broke, family alcoholism, and why business is the closest thing I have to art. We also talk about lookmaxxing streamers, the Genghis Khan gene, purchasing power parity, and enough unhinged tangents to make you forget we started with a squirrel attack. That's the show. It's chaos with a spine.  Follow WET Podcast: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wet.podcast/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@wet.podcast Justin: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/justinessenmacher/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JustinEssenmacher/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@openmicjustin Markus: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beardvonmarkus/ Phillip: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/phillipgarciacomedy/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@phillipgarciacomedy/ 03:36 Clavicular's Lookmaxxing Empire 08:43 The Genghis Khan Gene 13:43 2026 Predictions Recap 18:33 Iran, PPP, and Empire 25:48 Marcus's Ancient New Phone 42:42 Sounds That Annoy Us 47:12 My Dad's Passing 57:00 Growth, Clips, and Clout Listen to the complete episodes of Sky King's Mental Playground, sign up at skmp.supercast.com Follow Sky on X Subscribe on YouTube Follow Sky on Instagram Hosted on Acast.
