E96 | The ‘Steve Irwin’ Of Today | Part 1 | w/ Erik Molvar of Western Watersheds Project

In This Episode- Fighting for conservation policies that you believe in (or don't believe in) is a part of your right/duty as hikers in the U.S. and abroad. I'm talking about our wild spaces, those beautiful and rugged places that we seek out for joy, solace, or even food to feed our families. This is the first part of our chat with Erik Molvar (Executive Director) of the Western Watersheds Project (WWP). We cover a lot of ground including an introduction to who Erik is, all that he has accomplished in the 10,000 miles that he’s hiked (including the books he’s written about his hikes), and his work with the WWP.  We also delve into the challenges we are facing in the fight to protect our public lands, the crossroads of traditional ecological knowledge, dominionism, and kin-centrism, and wrap on the topic of wolf conservation. Thanks, Erik, for taking the time to discuss how we are standing up for what we/you believe in, and protecting our wild spaces. E92 | Be A Villager | w/ Erin Sprague of POW | A Love Of Hiking, Renewable Energy, The Power Of Science, And Community

In This Episode: They say it takes a village, but what’s a village without the folks who live there? Being a villager means showing up for your neighbors, contributing where you can, and protecting your home (in this case, the village). Erin Sprague, CEO of Protect Our Winters (or POW) thinks this way when it comes to POW’s main goal - combating climate change. As temperatures rise (and they are, without a doubt), our winters are taking a hit; something that may affect your next hike, including water availability, wildfires, or even increased avalanche risk. In today’s chat, Erin shares an empowering message on renewable energy by explaining what we can do (as a village) to fight the real culprit behind climate change. Is it AI? Extracting materials for renewable energy? Burning fossil fuels? Tune in to find out more, and to learn how being a good “villager” starts with simply knowing your neighbor’s name.   Links/Sources: POW Instagram | @ProtectOurWinters POW Website | protectourwinters.org Dr. Len Necefer | AI Is Not Draining the Colorado River. E90 | An Aardwolf! (Gear) | w/ Nate "Good Cat" Katz | Finding Your Niche In The Hiking World & Doing Good

In This Episode - What's an Aardwolf you ask? This weeks’ episode was a chat with Nate Katz, owner of Aardwolf Gear, where we learned about his origins in the outdoor world, how he started his business, and all of the great things Aardwolf Gear is doing and stands for. But where'd he get that name? Aardwolf gear utilizes dyneema fabric to create ultralight, durable gear, including ditty bags, shovel sheaths, spoon covers, and more. We also talk about our shared experiences on the Arizona and Colorado trails, including experiences with wildfires.  A round of applause and thank you to Nate for joining us in this episode!
