The vessel was discovered floating adrift off the Great Barrier Reef, seemingly abandoned by her three-man crew. The evidence found on board, which many hoped would point to an explanation for what happened, only yielded more questions than answers. The fate of the three crewmen remains unknown to this day, as do the circumstances surrounding their disappearance. On August 12, 1819, the whaling vessel 𝘌𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘹 departed Nantucket port for what was intended to be a three-year expedition hunting giants of the deep. What returned after just a year was a handful of surviving crew and one hell of a story. This is the terrifying true tale that inspired an American classic, and still haunts the seas to this day.
