Chingona, You Still Love Them, So Why Do You Want to Leave? | Roselyn Perez Casiano

Chingona, You Still Love Them, So Why Do You Want to Leave? | Roselyn Perez Casiano What happens when you love someone, but you no longer feel connected to them? And what if the reason has less to do with your relationship and more to do with something you experienced years ago? Ay, Chingona. This conversation is going to make you think! In this episode of Latina Mic Drop, I'm joined by Roselyn, a therapist and co-author of The Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat, who shares how her marriage of 20 years nearly ended, even though she and her husband still loved each other. Roselyn thought she had healed from her childhood experiences. She was independent, successful, and had all the tools to handle whatever life threw her way. Until she realized that surviving something doesn't always mean you've healed from it. Growing up with feelings of abandonment taught her not to depend on anyone. But what happens when that same independence makes it difficult to trust, connect, and receive love? We get into some real conversations about: Why childhood abandonment can affect adult relationships.Feeling emotionally disconnected from someone you still love. Why strong, independent women sometimes struggle to receive love and support. How people-pleasing and taking care of everyone else can leave you feeling invisible. The difference between being resilient and actually healing. How journaling, self-awareness, and emotional connection helped Roselyn rediscover herself. And here's something worth thinking about: Are you walking away because the love is gone, or because something inside you makes it difficult to feel connected? This isn't about telling anyone to stay or leave. It's about understanding yourself, recognizing patterns, and making decisions from a place of clarity instead of fear. Because, Chingona, you deserve love that you don't have to earn, prove yourself worthy of, or exhaust yourself trying to keep. The Chingona Playbook Roselyn is one of 21 powerful women sharing their stories in The Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat, published by Mi Sí House. These stories are about more than overcoming challenges. They're about the lessons we carry, the rules we rewrite, and the women we become when we start choosing ourselves. When You Realize You Deserve Better | Thelma Federico Zaragoza

What happens when you finally realize you deserve better? More love. More respect. More peace. And a life that actually feels good to YOU. Chingona, sometimes we don't realize how much the things we've been told about ourselves influence what we believe we deserve. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this week on Latina Mic Drop, I'm joined by Thelma Federico Zaragoza, one of the 21 co-authors of Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat. Thelma shares her journey of surviving domestic violence, rebuilding her self-worth, finding love again, and becoming the woman she always had the potential to be. We talk about how being called "gordita" as a little girl shaped how she saw herself, why we sometimes hold on to relationships hoping someone will change, and what happens when we finally begin believing in ourselves. But here's what I love about Thelma's story. She didn't stop living. She leaned into her faith, family, friendships, and professional support to heal. Today, she's in a healthy, loving marriage, empowering students through her work in higher education, and celebrating a dream she once thought was out of reach: becoming a published author! And the reason she chose to share her story? HOPE. Hope that another woman knows she's not alone. Hope that someone recognizes her worth. And hope that we continue talking about the experiences so many women have been taught to keep quiet. 🎙️ IN THIS EPISODE: 00:00 – Meet Thelma Federico Zaragoza 06:31 – Reclaiming the meaning of Chingona 08:27 – My encounter with Dolores Huerta 12:27 – How childhood labels affect our self-worth 16:11 – Why we can't change someone else 19:33 – Finding strength through faith, family, and healing 27:50 – Reclaiming your voice and becoming an author 32:35 – Why sharing our stories matters 38:50 – Finding healthy love and living on your terms 44:26 – Find your YES people 45:42 – Chingona Rapid Fire 💜 HERE'S MY QUESTION FOR YOU: What have you been believing about yourself that no longer deserves a place in your life? Maybe it's something somebody called you. Something somebody told you that you couldn't do. Or something you've been telling yourself for years. You get to question those beliefs, Chingona. And you get to decide what you want for your life. 📖 GET THE BOOK Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat features 21 Latina women sharing stories of courage, healing, identity, resilience, and finding their own paths.

Hoy en Latina Mic Drop me acompaña Karola Castro, una afrolatina hondureña, coach certificada y coautora de Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat. Y me respondió: "Cuando me di permiso." ¡BOOM! Girl, You Take Care of Everybody. But Who’s Taking Care of You?

Girl, when was the last time you asked yourself: How do I actually feel? Not what needs to get done. Not who needs you. Not what everybody else is eating. Not what the scale says. How do YOU feel? On this episode of Latina Mic Drop, I sit down with Chingona Playbook co-author Berenice Vargas Luna for a conversation about food, self-love, body image, Latina wellness, and what happens when mujeres finally stop putting themselves last. Bere shares how her relationship with food completely changed as she began looking at food differently and paying attention to what her body was telling her. We talk about growing up without necessarily being taught how food affects our energy and well-being, the cultural pressure around our bodies, and the comments many Latinas know way too well: *You gained weight. You're too skinny. You're eating too much. You're not eating enough.* Can we just eat in peace, por favor? But this conversation goes deeper than what's on the plate. We talk about the women who make sure everybody else eats first. The high-achieving women who work all damn day without eating and then wonder why they're exhausted. The eldest daughters who automatically take responsibility for everybody. And the Chingonas learning that asking for help, feeding themselves, resting and taking care of their bodies doesn't make them selfish. It means we're finally including ourselves in the people we take care of. Bere also shares how going through divorce forced her to rediscover herself, how cooking helped rebuild her confidence, and why learning to love herself became one of the biggest lessons of her life. In this episode, we get into: - Latina self-care and why we often put ourselves last - Food, body image and our complicated relationship with both - Why listening to your body matters - High-achieving women who forget to eat, rest and recharge - Eldest daughter syndrome and always feeling like you have to handle everything - Rebuilding confidence after divorce and major life changes - Learning to ask for help instead of doing everything alone - Self-love beyond the cute quotes and spa days - Becoming a new version of yourself - What it really means to be a Chingona One of my favorite takeaways from Bere? Before we even talk about food, ask yourself: Where are you with YOU? How can you show yourself more love? Because Chingona, you can love your familia, serve your community, build the career, run the business and handle all the things. Eres Chingona también, y te mereces lo que tú pides para los demás. 🎙️ Listen to the full episode of Latina Mic Drop featuring Berenice Vargas Luna, co-author of Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat. And if you're a Latina, Chicana, eldest daughter, high-achieving mujer, entrepreneur, leader, or Chingona learning how to choose herself without guilt, this conversation is for you. Toxic Work, Burnout & Taking Your Power Back | Melany del Carpio

Toxic Work, Burnout & Taking Your Power Back | Melany del Carpio What happens when keeping your head down, working hard, and saying yes to everything finally breaks you? In this episode of Latina Mic Drop, Miriam Simon sits down with Melany del Carpio, a first-generation, firstborn Peruvian American, corporate tech professional, and one of the 21 contributing authors of The Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat. Melany shares how a toxic work environment pushed her to a breaking point and ultimately led her to take medical leave. That pause became the beginning of something bigger: reclaiming her voice, setting stronger boundaries, changing careers, and learning how to take her power back. We talk about the cultural pressure many Latinas experience to work hard, stay quiet, be grateful, serve others, and worry about qué van a decir. We also get into burnout, workplace boundaries, leadership, identity, creativity, career pivots, vision boards, community, and what it really means to know yourself. One of Melany’s most powerful lessons? “To not know yourself is a tragedy.” This conversation is for anyone who has ever ignored the warning signs in their body, stayed too long in a toxic workplace, felt guilty for needing rest, or realized they were living according to everyone else’s expectations. In this episode, you’ll hear about: • Toxic workplace culture and burnout • Taking medical leave from work • Reclaiming your voice and personal power • Setting healthy workplace boundaries • Latina leadership and doing the inner work • Career pivots from higher education to corporate tech • First-generation Latina experiences • Cultural expectations and qué van a decir • Breaking generational patterns around work and sacrifice • Why strong leaders have to know themselves • Creativity, vision boards, and creating a life you actually want • The power of writing your story • Latina representation in publishing • Casa de Chingonas and authentic community • Becoming unapologetically yourself Melany is also one of the 21 contributing authors featured in The Chingona Playbook: Secrets to Dance to Your Own Beat, a collection of real stories from women who stopped waiting for permission and started choosing their own rhythm. 📚 The Chingona Playbook launches September 29, 2026. Learn more at https://www.chingonaplaybook.com If this episode speaks to you, share it with the Chingona who has been running on empty, questioning herself, or needing permission to choose herself. Because sometimes taking your power back starts with finally listening to the warning lights.
