BODY IMAGE: A Heart Restored: Eating Disorders, Identity & Finding Freedom through Christ With Kyra Gilbert | S07E63

At Dirty Laundry, my goal has never been to tell you what to think. It’s to create space for honest stories, thoughtful conversations, and perspectives that invite curiosity, reflection, and hope. Every guest shares from their own lived experience, and while every story won’t reflect every listener’s beliefs or journey, I hope each one offers something worth considering. Take what serves you, leave what doesn’t, and above all, know that you’re always welcome here. In this episode, you’ll hear the story of a former dancer whose life became consumed by an disordered eating. From the outside, she appeared disciplined and successful, but behind the scenes she was battling restriction, purging, and the relentless pressure to earn her worth through her body. She shares what it looked like to live in that darkness, the lies she believed about herself, and the moments that began to change everything. Through her story, we talk about perfectionism, identity, healing, and the ways God met her in the middle of her pain—not because she had it all figured out, but because He met her exactly where she was. My hope is that, wherever you find yourself today, this conversation reminds you that no struggle is too deep, no story is too far gone, and no person is beyond hope. Healing rarely happens all at once, but even in the darkest places, there is always the possibility of redemption, restoration, and a God who never stops pursuing us. BODY IMAGE: Alone in Your Own Body: From Isolation and Shame to Creating Space to Be Seen With Glenna Scholle-Malone | S07E62

In this episode, we’re talking about body image, eating disorders, shame, and the ways we can learn to believe that our bodies need to look a certain way in order for us to be loved, accepted, or worthy. Glenna shares her deeply personal story of growing up feeling different, being bullied for her weight, and learning from a young age to hide herself. What began as restrictive eating eventually became a cycle of binge eating and bulimia that followed her for years, often hidden behind the belief that she was simply trying to be “healthy.” We talk about the loneliness that comes with struggling in silence, the complicated relationship between trauma and control, and how society’s praise for weight loss can sometimes reinforce the very behaviors that are hurting us. Glenna also shares how faith became a foundational part of her recovery, helping her begin to see her body not as something to punish or control, but as a vessel worth honoring and fueling for the life God has called her to live. This isn’t a story about a perfect recovery or a before-and-after transformation. It’s a conversation about grace, healing, and breaking free from the shame that keeps us isolated. Glenna shares how her own story has given her a deeper heart for young girls who may be silently struggling with body image and disordered eating, and why sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is use our voice, speak up, and create space for someone else to realize they aren’t alone. BODY IMAGE: What if Your Body Has Been Trying to Protect You? The Inner Critic, Diet Culture, and What to do Next with LCSW Lexi Bonilla | S07E59

This season, we’re having honest conversations about body image, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and what it means to find peace with the body you live in. Through personal stories and conversations with therapists and other professionals, we’ll explore the experiences so many of us quietly carry—and the beliefs we’ve learned about our worth, appearance, and ourselves. My hope is that these episodes help you feel a little less alone, a little more understood, and maybe even a little more curious about the story your own body has been trying to tell. For so many of us, body image isn’t really about our body at all. In this episode, I sit down with therapist Lexi, to talk about body image, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, intuitive eating, and why so many of us feel stuck in the cycle of trying to “fix” ourselves. We explore how Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps us understand the inner critic, why our thoughts about food and our bodies often develop as forms of protection, and how healing starts with curiosity instead of criticism. Whether you’ve struggled with dieting, wellness culture, disordered eating, or simply feeling at war with your body, this conversation offers both practical tools and a compassionate new perspective. If you’ve ever wondered why it’s so hard to let go of body shame, this episode is for you. BODY IMAGE: The Girl with Perfect Hair: Body Image, Perfectionism, Fashion, Running and Freedom with Andrea Kuivinen | S07E58

Body image is something almost all of us have wrestled with in one way or another. Throughout this season, we’re sharing honest stories, conversations, and practical resources that explore the many layers of our relationship with our bodies—from food and movement to identity, self-worth, healing, and hope. My prayer is that these episodes help you feel less alone, challenge the narratives you’ve carried, and remind you that your value has never been defined by the way you look. Today’s conversation is with my friend, Andrea. Andrea is a runner, works in the fashion industry, and is someone I’ve known to be incredibly driven. She’s always had that type-A, high-achieving energy, and like so many women, she’s spent a lot of her life navigating the pressure to look a certain way, perform a certain way, and be a certain way. In this episode, Andrea shares her journey with body image, confidence, perfectionism, and the ways those stories started much earlier than most people realize. We talk about getting up before sunrise to put on makeup before swim practice, the messages we absorb about beauty and worth, and what it looks like to slowly untangle yourself from those expectations. What I love most about this conversation is that it isn’t about arriving at some perfect destination. It’s about learning to take up space, trust yourself, and move toward wholeness one step at a time. Whether you’ve ever struggled with body image, felt trapped by perfectionism, or found yourself constantly chasing the next version of yourself, I think you’ll find pieces of your own story in Andrea’s.
