150 episodes ago, we started a little comic book podcast. Since then, we've talked comics, met creators, played games, shared our collections, created The Chronicles of Panel Pete, traveled to conventions, and had a whole lot of fun along the way. Now, we're 150 episodes in... Our mission? To boldly go where no Talkin' Comics Podcast has gone before. And we're just getting started. 🖖📚🚀 Episode 150 is here. EP: 149 How to Start a Comic Convention: Inside Nerdfest with Derek & Tim

What does it really take to build a comic convention from the ground up? On this episode of Talkin' Comics, AJ sits down with Derek of Nerf Herder Comics and Tim of Chasing Collectibles to talk about the story behind Nerdfest, the comic convention they created in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Derek and Tim share how they went from being comic collectors and vendors to creating their own convention, what they learned from their first shows, how Nerdfest has grown, and why getting the word out means more than just posting online. From Facebook and Instagram to TikTok, comic shops, colleges, libraries and good old-fashioned “boots on the ground” promotion, they explain how they worked to build an audience and create a convention that brings together comic book fans, collectors, vendors, cosplayers and creators. What happens when you combine horror, manga, teenage drama, demons and the experience of a veteran video game writer? In this episode of Talkin' Comics, AJ Reimann sits down with writer Adam Tierney to talk about his new graphic novel 13 Demons Dead, his journey from video games into comics, and the incredible projects he's worked on along the way. Adam has spent more than two decades working in video games, including projects involving X-Men, Batman, Justice League, River City Girls and Yars Rising. Now he's bringing that experience to comics with 13 Demons Dead, a horror graphic novel about 14-year-old Everly “Ev” Espada, who discovers that she has become the latest demon hunter in a 2,000-year-old battle. We talk about what inspired 13 Demons Dead, the challenges of creating a 250+ page graphic novel over several years, working with artist Saspy, and why Adam wanted to combine genuine horror with humor, heart, school drama and manga-inspired storytelling. Adam also takes us behind the scenes of his work on Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, his experiences writing Batman and X-Men video games, working with legendary creators, and how networking at conventions can open unexpected doors.
