Daily Happy Episode 95: The Case For Cuddling

Cuddling gets written off as “nice,” but it’s also powerful. When the world feels busy, heavy, or flat-out chaotic, a few seconds of safe, affectionate touch can help your body exhale. We’re talking about the real joy of cuddling: the kind that doesn’t require big plans, perfect words, or fixing anything at all. Just closeness, comfort, and that quiet reminder that you’re not alone. We also dig into the science of affectionate touch and mental health. A 2024 review in Nature Human Behavior looked across 200+ studies, including a meta-analysis with nearly 13,000 people, and found touch-based interventions linked with reduced anxiety, fewer depressive symptoms, and less pain, along with benefits tied to cortisol regulation. We connect that to a 2023 eLife study on affectionate touch and oxytocin, the “love hormone,” and why bonding, connection, and stress relief often show up together in everyday life. Then we make it practical: cuddles with kids at story time, a gentle hug with aging parents, no-agenda snuggles with your partner, and pet cuddles that respect their boundaries. And yes, we say it out loud: there is nothing wrong with cuddling a stuffed animal. Comfort is personal, and there’s no single formula for happiness. If you need a small way to feel better today, press play, try the Daily Happy cuddle challenge, and tell us what brought you comfort. Daily Happy Episode 94: What If The Perfect Moment Is Today and Turning 60

Happiness isn’t always a life overhaul. Sometimes it’s a shift in attention, a deep breath, and the decision to notice what’s already good right in front of us. We’re leaning into three simple ideas that can change the way a day feels: the value of Libra-style balance, the power of celebrating milestones, and the perspective that comes with turning 60 and feeling grateful for every day you get.  We talk about what people love about Libras: harmony, beauty, fairness, connection, and that instinct to make everyone feel included. Then we name the part that can sting if you’re not careful: spending so much energy keeping the peace that you forget what you need. We share a gentle reminder that choosing yourself sometimes is not selfish. You can say no, protect your peace, and still be a loving person. Real balance includes you.  From there, we shift into celebration as a daily practice. Birthdays and anniversaries aren’t just dates on a calendar. They’re moments to honor laughter, lessons, endurance, and the people who keep showing up. We offer simple, meaningful ways to mark a milestone: the card, the call, the message, the flowers, the toast, the photo, and the words people never forget: “You matter to me.”  Finally, we sit with the gift of being 60, when time feels more precious and gratitude gets sharper. We don’t know how many ordinary Tuesdays we have left, so we stop postponing joy and start living more intentionally right now. If this resonates, subscribe, share this with someone you want to celebrate, and leave a review. What milestone are you honoring today? Support the show Start your day in a bright and happy way! Daily Happy Episode 89: Japanese Omakase Dining

I've come to appreciate omakase for more than just exceptional sushi. The Japanese word omakase means, "I'll leave it up to you." At first glance, it's simply a style of dining where the chef chooses each course. But the experience offers lessons that extend well beyond the dinner table. Mentally: Omakase encourages mindfulness. Each course invites you to slow down, be present, and fully experience the moment—something that's increasingly rare in our fast-paced, always-connected world. Physically: A thoughtfully prepared omakase often features fresh seafood, balanced portions, and high-quality ingredients that can be part of a healthy, nutrient-rich diet. Just as important, the meal unfolds at a natural pace, encouraging you to savor rather than rush. Culturally: Every bite reflects decades of craftsmanship, respect for seasonal ingredients, and a tradition that values precision, patience, and continuous improvement. Watching a skilled sushi chef at work is a reminder that mastery is built one small refinement at a time. One lesson resonates with me the most: trust. When you sit down for omakase, you let go of control and trust the expertise of someone who has dedicated years to perfecting their craft. In business and in life, knowing when to trust experts—and being open to learning from them—can lead to experiences and outcomes you might never have chosen for yourself. Sometimes the best decisions aren't about having more choices. They're about appreciating the value of craftsmanship, curiosity, and being fully present. Have you ever had an omakase experience—or another cultural tradition—that changed how you think about work or life? Support the show Start your day in a bright and happy way!
