Outspoken with Regina - Black August and the Work of Liberation

Black August asks us to remember that liberation has always required struggle, study, organizing, and collective care. Reproductive Justice gives us a framework for understanding what liberation must make possible in people’s real lives. In this episode, Regina Davis Moss is joined by Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates for a conversation about Reproductive Justice through a labor lens — schools, care, public infrastructure, working people, and the material conditions Black families need to thrive. We also host the August Creator’s Corner with Jameelah Jones to talk about Black August as memory, practice, and political responsibility. Outspoken Creator's Corner: Juneteenth, America 250, and the Unfinished Work of Freedom

In this special Outspoken Creator’s Corner, Regina Davis Moss is joined by Conscious Lee for a conversation on Juneteenth, Black freedom, America 250, and the unfinished work of liberation. Together, they reflect on what Juneteenth reveals about the U.S. government’s treatment of Black people — from delayed freedom and broken promises to the ongoing gap between symbolic recognition and material justice. The episode closes with a Narrative Power Note connecting Juneteenth to reproductive justice, reminding us that freedom is not just a celebration or a statement on paper. It is whether Black people can live, parent, decide, build, love, rest, and thrive. In honor of Black Maternal Health Week, Regina is joined by Keesha Hernandez, CD, CLES, birth and postpartum doula, and Saleemah J. McNeil, MS, MFT, Founder and Executive Director of Oshun Family Center, to explore how community-based care, organizing, and advocacy shape real outcomes for Black birthing people. Outspoken with Regina: Beyond Representation: Black History and the Fight for Narrative Power

As Black History Month comes to a close, we’re confronting a moment of active erasure — from school curricula to journalists to public records to the cultural stories shaping how Black women are understood. In this episode of Outspoken with Regina, Regina Davis Moss welcomes back writer and cultural critic Dr. Michelle Taylor PhD aka Feminista Jones for a powerful conversation about narrative power. Together, they explore the difference between representation and infrastructure, how portrayals of Black women shape public belief, and why cultural narratives often determine whether policy change is possible. This episode asks a critical question: What happens when Black history is flattened, sanitized, or erased — and how do we build narrative ecosystems strong enough to protect autonomy, dignity, and belonging?
