Naija Eco Vibes Podcast Season 2 | 20 Years of Walk for Nature: From Awareness to Action Episode 8

What does it take to sustain an environmental movement for 20 years, and what must happen next? In this special episode of the Naija Eco Vibes Podcast, we reflect on two decades of Walk for Nature, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s flagship environmental advocacy initiative. We are joined by Mr. Tunde Ojei, Country Director of the International Rescue Committee, Nigeria Country Office, and Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, Member of NCF’s National Executive Council, who were both pivotal to the growth and evolution of the event, for a conversation about the journey, the milestones and the future of environmental advocacy in Nigeria. From the environmental concerns that inspired the early editions to the importance of public participation today, our guests explore how campaigns like Walk for Nature can move people beyond awareness towards meaningful action. We also discuss the role of young Nigerians in climate action, the responsibility of individuals and institutions to protect nature, and the work required to secure a healthier, more sustainable future. As the 20th edition approaches under the theme “Inspired for Climate Action,” one message stands out: protecting nature is a responsibility we all share. Beyond the Headlines: Who is Telling Nigeria’s Climate Story? | Naija Eco Vibes Podcast Season 2 Episode 7

Who is telling Nigeria’s climate story and is the story reaching the people who need to hear it? Climate change is already affecting everyday life in Nigeria, from flooding and extreme heat to disrupted farming, rising food prices and threatened livelihoods. Yet environmental stories often struggle to command the attention given to politics, crime, entertainment and sports. In this episode of the Naija Eco Vibes podcast, we go Beyond the Headlines with Ayoola Kassim, environment correspondent and anchor/producer of Earthfile at Channels Television, and Iposu Oluwakayode, Programmes Director and On-Air Personality at Lagos Talks. We unpack the role of the media in climate communication, why complex climate language can alienate audiences, whether fear-based reporting drives action, the power of solution-focused storytelling, and how journalists can help turn climate awareness into public action. We also explore what climate communication means for young Nigerians navigating unemployment, inflation and everyday survival and the opportunities for the next generation of environmental journalists and communicators. Listen, share your thoughts, and join the conversation. Naija Eco Vibes Podcast is powered by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) - Sustaining Nature, One Vibe at a Time.
