Learn to Discern the Voices Shaping Your Inner World : Season 3 Episode 7

What if the loudest voice in your head isn't the truest one? Have you ever stood between two decisions and wondered, “God, is this You?” Should I take the job?Should I leave the relationship?Should I start the business?Should I speak or stay quiet?Should I wait? Sometimes the difficulty isn't that God isn't speaking. It's that there are so many voices competing for our attention. In this episode of InnerScript Wellness, we slow down and explore what it means to develop discernment in the middle of those competing voices. Fear has a voice.Shame has a voice.Past experiences have a voice.People-pleasing has a voice.Pride has a voice. Our own desires and insecurities have voices too. So how do we recognize what is actually from God? We explore the difference between the loudest voice and the truest voice and why discernment is less about mastering a formula and more about becoming increasingly familiar with the character of God. The next time you're faced with a decision, pause before you react. Ask yourself: 1. What am I feeling right now? Notice the emotion without immediately allowing it to make the decision. 2. Which voice seems loudest right now? Is it fear? Shame? People-pleasing? Pride? Or a quiet invitation toward truth? 3. If I were not afraid, what would wisdom look like here? Not what would be easiest. Not what would make everyone happy. Not what guarantees success. What would wisdom look like? 4. What do I already know to be true about God? When circumstances become confusing, God's character hasn't changed. He is still faithful.Still wise.Still kind.Still patient.Still truthful.Still present. Because discernment isn't built in panic. It is cultivated in presence. Maybe the invitation isn't to become more certain about every decision. Maybe it's to become more attentive. To slow down.To pray.To immerse yourself in Scripture. To seek wise counsel. To pay attention to the fruit growing in your life. And above all, to remember that you are following a Shepherd, not solving a puzzle. The goal of discernment isn't to become certain about every choice. It's to become rooted in the character of God until His heart begins to shape yours. Which voice has been shaping my decisions lately? Don't rush to answer. Just notice. Sometimes the loudest voice isn't the truest one. And sometimes the truest voice is the one quietly calling you back to trust.

When Shame Becomes The Story - Part 1

Shame is not just a feeling. It is a storyteller. And for many of us, without even realizing it, shame has been holding the pen for a very long time. It quietly interprets our experiences, narrates our failures, and writes sentences like: I am not enough. People always leave. I have to prove myself. I cannot let anyone see this. Something is fundamentally wrong with me. The difficult part is that, over time, we can stop questioning whether those stories are true and simply begin living from them. This episode begins a two-part conversation about what happens when shame becomes part of your inner script, and what it looks like to allow grace to write something different. I walk through a simple four-question practice to help you slow down and notice the story running beneath the surface: 1. What happened? Just the facts, without interpretation. 2. What did I feel? Name it without judging it. 3. What story did I begin telling myself? This is where the inner script starts to reveal itself. 4. What does God say about me here? Not shame. Not fear. Not your feelings. God. Somewhere between the story shame has been telling and the truth God speaks over your life, renewal begins. And renewal is not always dramatic. Sometimes it looks like receiving a compliment instead of arguing with it. Asking for help instead of pretending you are okay. Admitting, that really hurt me. Speaking kindly to yourself because you are beginning to believe that God does too. Faithful moments, not only extraordinary ones. Two questions to carry with you into the weekend and the week ahead: What story has shame been telling you? What story is God telling instead? One story will keep you hiding. The other will invite you into freedom. InnerScript Wellness Podcast, hosted by Tolu Okubote Where God’s truth meets the science of how people change.

    The Story Beneath the Story

What if the biggest question isn't "Why did I do that?" What if it's... "What story was I believing when I did?" Welcome to Season 3 of InnerScript Wellness. If you've been joining the InnerScript Morning Practices, you've been learning to replace old scripts with God's truth. In this episode, we go one layer deeper. Because before we can rewrite the script, we have to understand where it came from. Together, we return to one of the most familiar passages in Scripture: Genesis 3 but through a different lens. Not simply asking what Adam and Eve did. But asking...What happened inside them? The moment shame entered, nothing about God had changed, nothing about creation had changed. But something changed in the story they believed about themselves. They hid, They covered, They became afraid. And in many ways, we've been writing our own versions of those survival stories ever since. Sometimes our "fig leaves" look like achievement. Sometimes perfectionism, Sometimes constant busyness, Sometimes always being the strong one, Sometimes never letting anyone see the parts of us that still need healing. In this episode, we'll explore: • Why every behaviour has a story beneath it.• How survival scripts quietly shape the way we think, lead, love, work and relate.• Why shame changes more than behaviour, it changes identity.• The difference between living from protection and living from truth.• How God invites us out of hiding and into healing. This episode isn't about fixing yourself, It's about becoming curious enough to ask: What story have I been living from? And Is it the story God is telling about me? If you've ever wondered why certain patterns keep repeating, why you react the way you do or why some wounds seem to keep speaking louder than truth, this conversation is for you. Take a deep breath, Come with an open heart. There is always a story beneath the story and healing often begins there.

InnerScript Morning Practice for Purpose, Hidden Seasons and Becoming.

Some seasons feel like nothing is happening, The growth feels invisible, the progress feels slow, the work feels private and the results feel distant and in those seasons comparison creeps in, the fear of being late creeps in.The belief that hidden means forgotten quietly settles in and we start to despise the very process that God is using to form us. This morning practice is for that season, It is a declaration of purpose over the hidden places, over the waiting, the preparation, the small beginnings, the quiet obedience that nobody sees but God. Because here is what this practice declares from the very beginning My life is not random. My process is not wasted. My becoming is not hidden from God. In this morning practice, you will be led through declarations covering: - Trusting God's timing over your own timeline- Releasing comparison and the fear of being late- Honouring small beginnings and quiet obedience- Releasing the belief that slow means stagnant- Releasing the belief that hidden means forgotten- Receiving grace for your process and your preparation- Trusting that God forms deeply before He releases widely- Declaring purpose over your present season because one of the most important things this practice will remind you is God builds roots before fruit.God develops character before platform.God teaches trust before expansion. And the season you are in right now no matter how quiet, no matter how slow, no matter how hidden, is not a detour from your purpose. It is the formation of it, Nothing is wasted in the hands of God.Not the waiting. Not the stretching. Not the learning. Not the healing. Not the private tears. Not the small beginnings. He who began a good work in you will complete it. Come back to this whenever you need to remember that your process is your purpose.Speak it live. Hear it live.Let truth become louder than the old script. I am practicing this in real time.Come with me.

It is a gentle reset not a performance of peace not a demand that you feel better immediately but a quiet, breathing, honest return to the truth that God is near. Grace, Shame and Learning To Speak To Yourself With God's Truth

Some mornings you wake up and shame is already the loudest voice in the room. Before the day has even started, the inner critic is running.Rehearsing what went wrong.Reminding you of what you failed at.Whispering that grace is for everyone else but maybe not for you. This morning practice is for that morning. It is seven minutes of truth spoken directly over the places where shame has been the loudest over your self-worth, your past, your process, your unfinished places and the inner voice that has been far too harsh for far too long. Because here is what this practice declares from the very beginning You are allowed to receive mercy today. You are allowed to begin again. You are allowed to be human. You are allowed to be held by God. There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Not condemnation not rejection, not punishment, not the rehearsal of what God has already forgiven. Grace. In this morning practice you will be led through declarations covering: 🤍 Releasing self-condemnation and harsh inner words🤍 Choosing correction over condemnation🤍 Growth without shame and repentance without despair🤍 Speaking to your soul with the same kindness God speaks to you🤍 Receiving mercy not just offering it to everyone else🤍 Letting God's truth rewrite what shame has quietly written🤍 Coming boldly to the throne of grace not because you earned it but because Jesus made the way Because one of the most important scripts that needs rewriting is the one you use to speak to yourself. God does not hold you hostage to your past. God does not define you by your worst moment. God does not call you by the name shame gave you. He calls you beloved. Forgiven. Chosen. Redeemed. His. And this practice is an invitation to start agreeing with that out loud, over your soul, before the day begins. Come back to this whenever shame feels loud.Speak it live. Hear it live.Let truth become louder than the old script.

Confidence, Courage and Showing Up With God - InnerScript Morning Practice

Some mornings you wake up and fear is already louder than faith. Before you have even started the day, the old script is running. You are not ready. You are not enough. Stay small. Wait until you are better. Hide until you are more prepared. This morning practice is for that morning. It is seven minutes of truth spoken directly over the places where fear has been the loudest, over your confidence, your courage, your calling, your voice and your willingness to show up in a season where becoming is still in process. This practice is built around one declaration that changes everything: Today I will not shrink back. Not because the fear is gone. Not because everything is figured out.Not because you feel ready. But because God is with you.God strengthens you.God goes before you.And He has not called you to hide. In this morning practice you will be led through declarations covering: Courage to show up before you feel ready Confidence rooted in Christ not performancePermission to start small and still count it as faithful Freedom from comparison and the need for approvalHoly boldness quiet, steady, Spirit-led Trusting the next step without needing the full pictureSpeaking truth when fear, doubt, shame and comparison rise You do not have to feel fearless to be faithful. You do not have to feel perfect to be used. You can be growing and still be called. Come back to this whenever you need courage to show up again.Speak it live. Hear it live.Let truth become louder than the old script. I am practicing this in real time. Come with me.
