The One Where The Wait Is Worth The Ride

Thanks for joining us for this episode of That’s Why We’re Friends. The podcast is created for women in the oldish season of life, where we get real & vulnerable about all things: faith, family, our bodies, health & everything in between.   If you’re looking for a space to laugh & cry about the real stuff, this is it!  What happens after the waiting season ends? And what if what God taught you in one season of waiting is exactly what you need for the next one? In Episode 57, we’re wrapping up our month of talking about seasons of waiting with a little recap, a few laughs, and a conversation about what happens on the other side of the wait. We talk about how the aftermath of waiting can prepare us for whatever God has next—including the next season when we may have to wait again. Because once we’ve seen what God has done before, we can carry those reminders with us when we find ourselves waiting again. And waiting doesn’t have to be boring! There is still so much to experience, feel, talk about, and enjoy while we wait. We compare waiting to standing in line at Six Flags—you might wonder how long you’re going to have to stand there, but when you finally get to the front and experience what you were waiting for, it was worth it. As we wrap up October, we’re reminded that God is always working, even when we’re waiting. Remembering His faithfulness in the past gives us hope for the future and helps us trust Him with whatever comes next. Because He works ALL things together for good. And sometimes, the wait is part of the ride. The One Where We Don't Put Life On Pause

In Episode 56, we’re continuing our conversation about seasons of waiting and talking about how God can prepare us for the waiting before we even realize we’re in it. James 1:2–4 tells us to consider it joy when we face trials because we know that the testing of our faith produces perseverance. But what does it actually look like to rejoice when we’re waiting for something we desperately want? We talk about how choosing joy in the waiting can change the way we experience the season. When we stop fighting against the waiting and allow God to work in us, we begin to see the fruit He is producing through it. Sara also shares about her own season of singleness and how she navigated that time of waiting, trusting God while continuing to live her life. Because God never asked us to put our lives on hold while we wait for Him to move. We can still live fully, experience joy, make memories, serve others, and live an abundant life right in the middle of the waiting. Maybe the waiting isn’t something we simply have to endure. Maybe it’s a season where God is preparing us, growing us, and producing something in us that will last. The One With Lauren Chandler

In Episode 55, we’re joined by Lauren Chandler, wife of Matt Chandler, lead pastor at The Village Church. Lauren and Matt have been serving at their church for 23 years and are parents to three kids. Lauren also recently opened Storied Provisions, a coffee shop born out of a journey that involved plenty of waiting, trusting, and following where God was leading. As we continue our month of talking about seasons of waiting, Lauren shares the story behind Storied Provisions—how the idea came about, how it became a reality, and what God was teaching her along the way. Together, we talk about the seasons in our own lives where we’ve had to wait on the Lord and what can happen when we slow down enough to actually listen for His voice. Sometimes in the waiting, things come to light that we may have missed if we were too busy trying to rush ahead. The waiting season may not always produce the outcome we expected or hoped for, but it always has the potential to produce fruit. God is working even when we can’t see what He’s doing, and sometimes the fruit of our waiting looks completely different than we imagined. What if the waiting isn’t wasted time? What if God is using it to grow something in us that we wouldn’t have seen any other way? The One Where We Find Fun In The Waiting Season

In this episode, we talk about how waiting used to be part of life. Now? We’re annoyed if someone doesn’t text us back in five minutes. 😂 We’re kicking off October’s theme, Seasons of Waiting, with a little fun—talking about life at 50-ish, the joys of menopause, things we actually used to have to wait for, things worth waiting for, and the everyday waits that test every ounce of our patience. Plus, a quick round of Would You Rather! Come laugh with us as we kick off a month all about waiting… because apparently, we’re not nearly as good at it as we thought. The One with Ashley & Laticia (the ladies of Abecca Grace)

In this episode, we talk about choosing to glorify God in our work and in whatever He has called us to do—not just in the big, obvious moments, but in the everyday things too. Our work can be an act of worship when we choose to honor Him with what He’s given us. But what happens when you feel stuck? When you’re unsure of what’s next, feeling weak, or struggling to hear from God? Sometimes the answer isn’t to push harder, but to stop, communicate with Him, and invite Him into the situation. We also talk about the importance of having people in our lives who will fight for us and pray for us when we don’t have the strength to do it ourselves. We weren’t created to walk out our calling alone. If you’ve ever felt stuck, unsure of your purpose, or needed a reminder that God is still working even when you can’t see what He’s doing, this conversation is for you. Be sure you follow us on Instagram to be able to win the $100 gift card that the ladies of Abecca Grace are giving away!  To get all the freebies we offer, follow this link:https://thatswhywerefriends.com/freebies Remember to subscribe & follow so you never miss anything we’ve got going on! The One Where We Find Our Value & Purpose

In Episode 52, we’re talking about finding our value and purpose in whatever season God has us in—even when that season looks different than we expected. Sometimes we can feel “unheard” or “unseen” because of the job we have, the position we hold, or the season we’re walking through. But our jobs don’t define us, and they don’t determine our purpose. We can choose to glorify God and advance His kingdom wherever He has placed us. And when we retire from a career, we don’t retire from the work God has called us to do in His Kingdom. Our purpose doesn’t have an expiration date. We also talk about what God is doing in the waiting. Just because we can’t see what He’s doing doesn’t mean He isn’t working. Sometimes He is doing something in us so He can eventually do something through us. Wherever you are right now, there is purpose in your season. You are seen, you are valued, and God is still working. The One With Colleen Stickl

In this episode, we’re joined by Colleen Stickl, pastor’s wife at Valley Creek Church, for a conversation about purpose, calling, vocation, and what it looks like to follow God into the next season of our lives. We can make plans for our lives, but ultimately, God is the One who prepares and directs our steps. Sometimes He is shaping us in ways we don’t understand yet, preparing us for something He has ahead. Together, we unpack the difference between vocation, calling, and purpose—and how each of these can show up in our everyday lives. We talk about recognizing God’s preparation, trusting His direction, and remembering that our purpose and calling aren’t ultimately about us—they’re for His name’s sake. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 If you’ve ever wondered, “What am I supposed to be doing with my life?” or felt like God might be preparing you for something you can’t quite see yet, this conversation is for you.
