    It’s Okay to Care: A Military Spouse Q&A | EP 31

Cozy Fall Q&A: Asking for Help, Military Marriage & Starting Over Grab a blanket and settle in. This week is a laid-back fall catch-up (pot roast in the oven, comfort dogs nearby) where I answer the questions you’ve been sending me since the show came back. We start deep: why military spouses struggle so much to ask for help, and what I wish civilian friends understood about military marriage. Just because he’s gone doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. From there I get into my biggest misconception about military life (it’s the gyms, y’all), the hardest part of a PCS that nobody prepares you for, and the guilt of wanting something different for your family. I also talk about the dreams we’ve put on hold, the boundary I wish I’d set sooner (spoiler: it’s okay to care), and the conversations couples should have before joining the military, including the night Austin told me he wanted to enlist, two days after my surgery. Plus: how we rebuild connection after long stretches apart, my best advice for anyone about to send their person to BMT, and what constantly starting over does to your identity. Next week, we’re breaking down last week’s Military Spouse Commission meeting, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Ella - Snail Salutes | Ep 30

“I’m Just a Girlfriend”: Long Distance, Moving Solo & Building Snail Salutes with Ella Sweezey This week on Details in Hindsight, I’m joined by military girlfriend Ella Sweezey, founder of Snail Salutes, a monthly letter subscription made for military significant others. Ella and her boyfriend Logan met in ROTC and made it through 14 months of long distance. Just three months ago, she moved across the country to his first duty station. She did it on her own, paying her own way, without her furniture, and without being able to talk to him for the last two months. She shares what that first taste of military life really felt like (yes, including a popped air mattress) and why it made her realize she’s in it for the long haul. We also talk about: 💌 How long distance made their relationship “even more beautiful, more peaceful, and more strong” 🏡 Adjusting to living together after months of independent lives 🫶 Finding community as a girlfriend when you can’t get on base ✉️ The story behind Snail Salutes, from letters to Logan to 300+ milsos every month 💭 Imposter syndrome and the advice she’d give day-one business owner Ella 🌿 Her best advice for military girlfriends: stop waiting for the next chapter to be happy 👋 Tips for making friends after a move, even if you’re shy: “Do it scared.” Whether you’re a girlfriend, fiancée, or spouse, this one is a reminder that your timeline is your own, and that you deserve to pour into yourself just as much as you pour into your service member. 🔗 Connect with Ella: ✉️ Snail Salutes: https://snailsalutes.com 📸 Instagram: @snailsalutes (business) | @swxxella (personal) 🎵 TikTok: @snailsalutes (business) | @swxxella (personal) 🎙️ Connect with Details in Hindsight: 📸 Instagram: @detailsinhindsight 🎵 TikTok: @detailsinhindsight ▶️ YouTube: Details in Hindsight 📩 Want to be a guest? detailsinhindsight@gmail.com 🤎 Connect with Maddy: 📸 Instagram: @maddy.vachris.brown 🎵 TikTok: @maddyvachris If this episode spoke to you, subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a milso who needs to hear it 🤎
