Lin Chen was a pharmacist. Then he died on a double shift and woke up in a cultivation world — muddy spiritual roots, a herb-garden punishment assignment, and eight years of pharmacology as his only cheat. The Apothecary's Dao is a cozy xianxia fiction podcast — a progression fantasy about method over brute force, where cultivation runs on dosage curves, failed experiments, and the quiet art of making better pills. No chosen one, no arrogant young master — just a broke outer-sect disciple applying double-blind thinking to alchemy in a world that brews by tradition and gut feeling. Cozy fantasy for readers who like their xianxia with lab notes. New chapters weekly. Read along free on Royal Road and Wattpad, or start from the hub: serumwrites.com.

    Chapter 1: The Wrong Pill

Lin Chen wakes up in a new body with nineteen-year-old hands and immediately notices the mortar is wrong. A pharmacist's eye for particle size turns garden weeds into a High-grade pill — and gets him noticed by all the wrong people. Read along:https://www.serumwrites.com/stories/the-apothecarys-dao/

    Chapter 2: The Night Shift

Description: The morning after the miracle pill, Senior Brother Feng gives Lin Chen an impossible order: do it again, exactly the same way. No scales, no timers, no sieves — just a dead man's muscle memory and a pitted stone mortar. So the pharmacist does what pharmacists do: he starts counting, and builds a sieve out of cloth and twine. Chapter 3: The First SOP

Elder Yu comes before dawn with a father's request: his twelve-year-old daughter's pills barely move her qi, and her meridians ache. He wants Lin Chen's method for her. But Senior Brother Feng's warning still rings in his ears — don't teach it to anyone. So Lin Chen writes it down instead: the first Standard Operating Procedure in the history of alchemy. Chapter 4: The Assay

The hall master has read the assay log, and Feng's cover story is about to meet paperwork. Lin Chen runs the diagnosis the way a pharmacist would — excipients, his own stock of 216 Low-grade pills, three snags found at stations 3, 5, and 7. In his old world, documentation saved lives. In this one, it's trying to end his. Ten days. Then he stops being the boy who hides. Read along: https://www.serumwrites.com/stories/the-apothecarys-dao/

    Chapter 5: Loss on Drying

The method is perfect. The material isn't. A humid week leaves the bitterroot damp, and damp powder clumps instead of sifting — water, the oldest adulterant. Lin Chen builds a balance out of sticks and string to prove it, then burns one of his six monthly pills on a purge trial that fails exactly the way chemistry says it should. And Su Lan is asking questions he can't answer honestly. Read along: https://www.serumwrites.com/stories/the-apothecarys-dao/

    Chapter 6: Constant Weight

Ch.5 proved flushing doesn't work, you can't sieve a solution. So Lin Chen does what pharmacists do when something won't flush: he chelates it, giving the residue something harder to bind to and carrying that away instead. Dry to constant weight stops being a drying standard and starts becoming a philosophy. Read along: https://www.serumwrites.com/stories/the-apothecarys-dao/

    Chapter 7: The Fever

The knocking comes at 1:40 AM, that's when the bad numbers always came. Ming, fourteen, gashed his leg on a broken drying rack and didn't tell anyone, and now he's burning up while the night healer says to wait for morning. The method gets its first patient, and the whole job is the space between too little and too much. Read along: https://www.serumwrites.com/stories/the-apothecarys-dao/

    Chapter 8: The Inspection

The hall master is touring the outer facilities, and the garden is about to be looked at the way an inspector looks at things. In pharmacy, validation means proving your process works while someone watches. Feng's advice: be the garden boy. The problem is the shed has no business containing instruments. Chapter 9: Batch Records

Lin Chen ground two batches that felt identical, and one sieved cleaner, and he doesn't know why, because he didn't write anything down. Memory lies, paper doesn't. So the batch records begin: every batch, every lot, every weight, written down. And someone else is reading the hall's paper trail too. Chapter 10: The Comparison

The review convenes in the assay chamber, and Lin Chen isn't invited. Feng presents the experimental technique with the false notes, and Shen Bo brings his own traditional batch and demands a side-by-side, graded in public. Today isn't about the best pill. It's about the most stable batch. And then a sparring match nobody expected. Read along: https://www.serumwrites.com/stories/the-apothecarys-dao/
