THE SECRET PLACE BEFORE THE BATTLEFIELD: GETTING ALONE WITH GOD IN TROUBLED TIMES | KIB 555 Kingdom Intelligence Briefing — Episode 555 With Dr. Michael Lake and Mary Lou Lake WHEN THE WORLD GROWS LOUDER, GOD'S PEOPLE MUST LEARN TO GET ALONE WITH HIM. We live in a time of increasing confusion, spiritual deception, fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty. Every day brings another crisis, another warning, another conflict, and another voice demanding our attention. But Scripture reveals a powerful principle that the modern Church desperately needs to recover: THE SECRET PLACE COMES BEFORE THE BATTLEFIELD. In this episode of Kingdom Intelligence Briefing, Dr. Michael Lake and Mary Lou Lake examine the biblical necessity of withdrawing from the noise of the world to seek God through prayer, Scripture, repentance, and spiritual stillness. From Moses and Elijah to David, Daniel, Habakkuk, and Jesus Christ Himself, the Bible reveals a consistent pattern: God prepares His servants in private before sending them into public assignments. THE POWER OF GETTING ALONE WITH GOD Isaiah 30:15 reveals that strength is found in returning to God, rest, quietness, and trust. Psalm 46:10 commands us to be still and recognize God's sovereignty. Psalm 62:5–7 teaches us to direct our souls toward God when circumstances threaten to overwhelm us. Getting alone with God is more than finding a quiet room. It involves intentionally turning our hearts, minds, and spiritual attention away from the world's distractions and back toward the Lord. ELIJAH: WHEN SPIRITUAL VICTORY IS FOLLOWED BY EXHAUSTION After Elijah's extraordinary victory on Mount Carmel, the threats of Jezebel drove him into the wilderness. In 1 Kings 19, God provided rest and nourishment before correcting Elijah's perspective and giving him renewed direction. Elijah discovered that God does not always speak through dramatic manifestations. Sometimes His direction comes in a quiet, unexpected way. Spiritual exhaustion can distort our perspective, but time in God's presence can restore our strength and understanding. DAVID: STRENGTHENING YOURSELF IN THE LORD In 1 Samuel 30:1–8, David returned to Ziklag and discovered that the Amalekites had destroyed the city and taken the families captive. His own men were so distressed that they considered stoning him. But David strengthened himself in the Lord, sought divine direction, and then acted in obedience. This account reveals an important biblical pattern: Crisis → Strengthening Ourselves in God → Seeking Divine Direction → Obedient Action → Restoration The urgency of a crisis must never replace the necessity of seeking God. JESUS CHRIST: THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF PRAYER AND SOLITUDE Jesus repeatedly withdrew from the demands of ministry to spend time with His Father. He prayed before major decisions, after intense ministry, and before facing the cross. In Gethsemane, Jesus demonstrated that the ultimate purpose of prayer is not to persuade God to approve our desires but to surrender our desires to His will. If Jesus made communion with the Father a priority, how much more should His disciples? THE DANGER OF SPIRITUAL DECEPTION Dr. Lake explains why troubled times can make believers vulnerable to fear, speculation, persuasive personalities, and false prophetic claims. Personal impressions must never be elevated above the written Word of God. John 17:17 establishes God's Word as truth. First John 4:1 commands believers to test the spirits. James 1:5 reminds us that God gives wisdom to those who ask. The purpose of getting alone with God is not to develop a source of revelation that competes with Scripture. It is to become more deeply established in biblical truth and responsive to the Holy Spirit. SEVEN PRACTICAL DISCIPLINES FOR THE SECRET PLACE Remove unnecessary distractions. Begin with God's written Word. Examine your heart before God. Present your concerns through prayer. Practice patient attentiveness. Test what you believe you are hearing against Scripture. Return to your Kingdom assignment in obedience. SPIRITUAL WARFARE BEGINS WITH SUBMISSION TO GOD James 4:7 teaches believers to submit themselves to God and resist the devil. The order matters. Spiritual warfare is not primarily about becoming increasingly preoccupied with the enemy. It is about becoming increasingly established in Jesus Christ, grounded in truth, submitted to God, and obedient to His Word. Ephesians 6:10–18 reinforces this principle through the whole armor of God. THE SECRET PLACE IS NOT A HIDING PLACE Moses encountered God before confronting Pharaoh. David strengthened himself in the Lord before pursuing the Amalekites. Elijah encountered God at Horeb before receiving his next prophetic assignment. Daniel sought God when the wisdom of Babylon proved insufficient. Jesus prayed before major decisions and before facing the cross. The secret place is where God restores our perspective, strengthens our faith, renews our minds, and prepares us to fulfill His purposes. In the last days, God's people must learn to withdraw from the noise without withdrawing from their responsibilities. It may be a quiet room, a place outdoors, a peaceful moment before the family wakes, or time spent studying Scripture and praying. The location may be different for every believer, but the priority must remain the same: making room for communion with God. As the world becomes more troubled, that relationship becomes increasingly essential. JOIN THE CONVERSATION Where do you find your quiet place with God?
