Why Are Couples Having Less Sex? Inside the "Sex Recession"--ep 70

In 1990, about 55% of couples had sex weekly. Today it's about 37%. Bri and Mark talk about what's behind the "sex recession": stress, exhaustion, screens, and lives so full that couples have little capacity left to connect. They also cover why once a week seems to be the satisfaction sweet spot, how to handle a desire gap without shame, and a 7-day challenge to try this week. Takeaways Weekly sex among couples dropped from about 55% in 1990 to about 37% now, based on the stats discussed in the episode. The reason couples hear most often: "I'm stressed and I'm tired." Health and emotional factors also play a part.Desire and arousal live in the body. We can't think ourselves into desire, and screens and constant output pull us out of our bodies.Couples who had sex about once a week reported feeling connected and satisfied. Twice a week didn't move the needle in the survey discussed.A desire gap between partners is normal. Aim for collaboration instead of compromise, and leave the shame out of it.If you're at either far end of the gap, there's more to explore: your connection to your body, medical or hormonal factors, emotions, or what you're really looking for through sex.Intimacy is more than sex. It can be mental, physical, experiential, and spiritual. Put it on the calendar.Talking about your sex life isn't one and done. It's an ongoing conversation. This week's challenge Seven days, no phones in the bedroom. Start with a conversation and ask each other something you haven't asked before. Even 10 minutes counts. Don't grab your phone afterward. Let it land, then go to sleep. Then see how you feel with each other by the end of the week. Did you try it? We'd love to hear how it went. Send us a message and tell us what you noticed. How to Stay Connected as a Couple During the Holidays (Without the Stress) -- ep 68

In this episode of Intimacy Evolution, we’re diving into one of the most common challenges couples face: staying connected during the holidays. Between family expectations, overloaded schedules, childhood programming, and unspoken obligations, the holiday season can easily create distance between partners. In fact, research shows that stress, increased responsibilities, and family dynamics contribute to a spike in relationship conflict during November and December. We explore the difference between obligation energy and choice energy—and how operating from obligation often leads to resentment, overwhelm, and emotional shutdown. You’ll hear how to shift into choice-based decision-making that supports intimacy, teamwork, and grounded connection. Inside this conversation, we unpack: How childhood traditions shape your current holiday expectationsWhy visiting family can trigger anxiety or old identity patternsHow to create shared traditions instead of defaulting to what you “should” doPractical ways to reduce stress, overstimulation, and schedule overloadA simple reflection process to identify what actually feels nourishingOur “scale system” for navigating events, in-law dynamics, and overstimulationHow to support each other when one partner feels overwhelmedWhy so many couples argue—or feel disconnected—during the holidaysHow to prioritize emotional closeness and partnership even during busy seasonsWhether you’re navigating family expectations, figuring out boundaries, or trying to prevent holiday burnout, this episode will give you the clarity and language to stay connected as a team. You’re not alone in this—holiday challenges are incredibly common. This episode will help you move through the season with more intention, compassion, and connection. Babe, Where’s Our Car? 20 Years Later — The Reunion, the Reflection, and the Chaos--ep 66

What was supposed to be a simple trip down memory lane turned into a night we’ll never forget. In this episode, we share the full story of attending Bri’s 20-year high school reunion — the nostalgia, the unexpected emotions that came rushing in, and the wild twist that ended with us asking… “Babe, where’s our car?” Beyond the chaos, this night brought up some surprisingly deep reflections about identity, growth, and partnership. We talk about: ✨ The emotional rollercoaster of revisiting your past and seeing how far you’ve come ✨ How nostalgia can stir up old versions of yourself — and what to do when that happens ✨ Staying grounded as a couple when life throws curveballs (or your car disappears) ✨ Turning stressful moments into connection instead of conflict ✨ Finding humor and gratitude in the middle of absolute mayhem This one’s got it all — laughs, life lessons, and a good dose of “are you kidding me?!” energy. So buckle up (because apparently, we didn’t that night 🤦‍♀️) and join us for a story about how even the most chaotic moments can bring you closer — if you let them.
