Inverted Orthodoxy 455- Nature and the Old Testament, When leadership feels divisive

This week covers the following: (1:06 into episode) August 13- In the Old Testament (especially in books like the prophets) god often talks about how the issues the land is facing are from him, as he is trying to get his people to turn back to him (such as locust, plagues, or famines). Do you think natural disasters are still acts of God trying to get people to turn back to him. One example I am pondering are all the crazy wildfires that seem to be getting worse year to year. Would love to hear your thoughts. (24:05 into episode) August 13- My spouse and I have been in ministry for 5 years and we just had to leave our church due to divisive leadership issues. Something we realized after leaving is that many of our relationships within the church were made simply because we were their pastors rather than having true friends and deep community. We spent so much of our time facilitating and creating community for those within our church we realized we didn't have much real community for ourselves. Inverted Orthodoxy 454- AER, Jesus walks in, and Resurrection

This week covers the following questions: Sept 3- AER: Doug, I would like a recantation- you said that the philistines capturing the ark of the covenant happened after David brings the ark to Jerusalem BUT the philistines take the ark in 1 Samuel 4, its returned in 1 Samuel 6 and David brings it to Jerusalem in 2 Samuel 6. lol, caps in my AER were inadvertent. But I wanted to clarify that I agree with Doug in I meant that, as the leader, the pastor needs to shepherd the people to be “priests” and representatives of God to others. I didn’t really mean a business, or medical, or legal generalist, but a spiritual generalist. I hate whe churches are run like a business. 1. Aug 5- If Jesus walked into our church this Sunday, what do you think He would commend? What might He challenge? 2. If after Jesus’s resurrection he still had the nail holes in his hands what does that mean for us at the resurrection? Will we be resurrected in the same state we were when we died including injuries? What about cremation? If we are in new/rejuvenated bodies why wasn’t Jesus?

Inverted Orthodoxy 453- AER, Rage baiting the Pastors, and more!

AER: I am happy with the professionalization of clergy, and I appreciate all the wonderful things that I learned on Sunday morning. I find that it equipped me to live a life, which is pleasing to God, but I don’t really feel that I am equipped to be a priest to those friends and family around me that do not know or serve God.. am I missing something? AER I BELIEVE A PASTOR (OR AT LEAST THE LEAD PASTOR) IS A GENERALIST, THAT OVERSEES THE PREPERATION OF THE LAY PEOPLE. THIS IS MICH LIKE A CEO , OR A JUDGE (VS LAWYER) OR A Gp (vs a specialist). When I was doing my mba, we complained that we only had 6 weeks in each specialty (ie. accounting, HR, etc), but it was explained that the goal was not to teach us to practice these disciplines but to manage the people with these expertise. Aug 30- Few questions for you, these should be read then answered before moving on the next. 1. If you were athletic, what sport would you play? 2. If you had a real job, what would it be? 3. What do you think it would feel like to be good looking? 4. Besides the obvious, what’s one thing you would change about yourself if you could? 5. If you were really smart, what job would you do? 6. If you had been successful in life, what do you think you’d be doing? July 8-In Galatians 1:9 it speaks of putting others under God’s curse. What does that mean? July 11- Which is more valuable, a human life? Or a human soul? July 17- What is James 1 saying about Jesus’ temptation in the desert when he says, “ 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.”? Thank you. July 22- What do you think happened to the ark of the covenant? Many scholars think that it was Taken when Egypt attacked Jerusalem but the author of kings never overtly says this. Why do you think the author omits this as it was Their most important religious item as the place where god dwelled

My question is: 1:4 Grace and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, is there any mentioning of the seven spirits elsewhere? Inverted Orthodoxy 451- Allies, Activism, and the Rapture

June 2- I've been thinking a lot since the sexuality discussion night about activism versus performative activism. As pastors, do you find that discussions around LGBTQIA+ issues bring unique challenges or pushback within the church? One thing I've been wrestling with is that some of the loudest advocates for LGBTQIA+ inclusion can also engage in behaviours that seem contrary to the values they're promoting. For example, there have been instances where LGBTQ+ individuals who were not publicly out were identified or discussed without their consent. Since being out is a deeply personal decision, that can cause significant harm. How should we evaluate advocacy when the stated goal is inclusion and safety, but some actions appear to violate those same principles? And how do we keep those people who may now feel unsafe, feel safer at church post discussion? Thank you for the respect you showed while hosting that discussion night, I know I felt it and felt seen and heard. June 7- I have grandparents that would have rapture views for Christianity, I love them and want to respect, but sometimes I want to challenge them on their views of rapture theology, especially because some of the things that they listen too are toxic. What would you guys recommend?

Inverted Orthodoxy 450- 50 CALORIES?! The Communion Scandal and the professionalization of Pastors

But on Sunday… you said the communion cups were 50 (FIFTY) calories. There’s no way!! Maybe 5 calories max if we are being generous? 0-1 calories for the wafer… and like 3-4 for the juice per cup. Explain yourself! lol. 😂 (10:45 into episode) May 19- Do you think the professionalization of the role of the pastor has led to an immaturity in the church. We are corporately called to be royal priests, to be alongside each other in our walk with Christ. But so many Christians just listen to the pastor and not each other. Does having full time pastors reduce the opportunities for us all to take on leadership roles, serve in the church, and develop our faith? This week covers the following questions: John 20:19-23, why is this passage not centered on as the first infilling of Holy Spirit? It appears to be more intimate, intentional. In comparing to what happened in Acts 2, in John 20, Jesus is giving Holy Spirit to the disciples and they witness what Holy Spirit can and will do in Acts 2. Does Jesus heal, forgive, provide and generally answer needs, or does he intercede, bringing them to the father, who then heals, forgives, provides and answers needs? (2:11 into episode) can you help me with another podcast title? thank you!! 702. April 17- Jesus said, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”’ John 20:15–17. It strikes me that Jesus is still half human. Does that automatically make a hierarchy between him and the Father? Is he still answerable and obedient to the Father as we are (or should be)? (33:13 into episode) May 1- When Jesus returns and we get our new bodies and there will be no more pain or tears, what would happen if you jumped off a cliff or in front of a train or something? Assuming laws of nature still apply like gravity then you’d think you’d be Injured but if there’s no more pain or tears what do you think would happen?
