Macklin's Take #130 with Joe Gallagher

Macklin's Take #130 with Joe Gallagher

As we canter towards our summer break, me & Matt thought it was about time we invited our good pal Joe Gallagher back onto the podcast.

As we said a few weeks ago, we've decided on MT that the pandemic is over, we're nothing if not a glass half full enterprise after all, and so with that in mind are taking the opportunity to have a look back at a unique period in boxing history.

And Joe was an ideal man to do that with 😁

Macklin's Take #129 with Dennis Hobson

Macklin's Take #129 with Dennis Hobson

This week we welcome Dennis Hobson onto the podcast.

Dennis has been involved in boxing as a promoter at all levels of the sport. He's taken the likes of Clinton Woods, Stuey Hall & Jamie McDonnell to world titles and conquered America with Ricky Hatton.

He has plenty of tales to tell and we were only too happy to hear them. And he's now back on the front line with Fight Zone too so we also had a good chat about that.

Macklin's Take #128 with Jon Pegg

Macklin's Take #128 with Jon Pegg

This week me and Matt welcome back our Franchise champion, the one and only Jon Pegg.

Macklin's Take will be taking a summer break in a few weeks and we reckon that when we return boxing will be back, crowds will be back and the Covid era will finally be coming to a close.

So we decided that over the next few episodes we'd have a bit of a light hearted look back at what has been a crazy last 15 months or so in the company of some selected guests. And unsurprisingly Jon was one of the first names on the team sheet, as he's definitely a man who can find the humour in almost any situation.

Macklin's Take #127 with Mike Altamura

Macklin's Take #127 with Mike Altamura

This week on Macklin's Take me and Matt are joined by Mike Altamura.

Mike is a genuine boxing insider; a matchmaker, agent and fixer, he's been involved in the sport at pretty much every level from organising local shows in his home country of Australia, to scouting for Top Rank at Olympic Games, to managing fighters to world titles.

Mike's got one of those great, "only in boxing" kind of stories and it was tremendous fun hearing it.

Macklin's Take is now also on YouTube so if you could find your way over there and click subscribe, that would be great.

Macklin's Take #126 with Chris McKenna

Macklin's Take #126 with Chris McKenna

This week me & Matt catch up with Daily Star boxing writer Chris McKenna.

A few weeks ago it was Chris who broke the news that AJ vs Fury wouldn't be happening because Tyson would have to first give Deontay Wilder a third fight.

It was a huge story, the biggest of Chris' career to date so we were keen to know how it came about and just what it's like working on the boxing beat for a daily newspaper in the current climate; a job where you have to combine the old school values of the printed daily edition with the more modern approach demanded by the instant digital platform.

The conversation went in all sorts of directions and we finished off with a good chat about the Matchroom/DAZN news, which had been confirmed the day we recorded this with Chris.

Macklin's Take is now also on YouTube so if you could find your way over there and click subscribe, that would be great.

Knackered Rob ,

One of the best boxing podcasts

Both Andy Clarke and Matt Macklin are great with their insight, observations and self-deprecating humour. Check out episodes with the likes of Jon Pegg who’s absolutely hilarious and interesting, Sunny Edwards who’s so, so intelligent and perceptive, Carl Froch for his knowledge, humour and brains, Ashley Theophane for honesty and his intelligence and Tris Dixon for his integrity and genuine concern for boxers’ long-term health

Superb

Brilliant show, great guests, great content.I enjoy the nerdy, self deprecating humour of Andy Clarke, and the educated wide boy that is Matt Macklin.I love Carl Froch’s condescending manner on his appearances on the show.Plenty of other great episodes besides

The G4z ,

Great listen

Always a great listen. Top guests bring insight from their own unique perspective and experiences. Something for all boxing fans. Bit disturbing that the new graphic looks like H from Steps standing near a blow up doll though.
